Footage Emerges of Israeli Troops Shooting Knife-Wielding Israeli Arab, as Terror Wave Continues (VIDEO)
Israeli media published a dramatic amateur video on Friday showing an incident which occurred earlier in the day in Afula in which Israeli soldiers neutralized a knife-wielding female Israeli Arab terrorist, identified by the Shin Bet as 30-year-old Asraa Zidan Tawfik Abed, from the Israeli city of Nazareth.
The incident, the latest in a string of similar attacks sweeping the country, occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m., when Abed entered the city’s central bus station. Standing near one of the boarding platforms, she pulled out a knife and began advancing towards an IDF soldier who was standing nearby.
After repeated warnings, two Border Police (Magav) officers, a soldier, and a security guard who saw Abed’s advance fired at her lower body, moderately wounding her.
The video captures the dramatic moments before the officers were able to subdue Abed. The security personnel are seen ordering the terrorist to drop her knife, and then shooting at her after she ignored their orders.
According to Shin Bet, prior to Friday’s incident, Abed did not have a criminal record.
In an interview with Israel’s Channel 2, a Border Police officer at the scene identified only as Deputy Sergeant “Bet” recounted the moment in which security forces overcame the would-be attacker.
“When I got to the central bus station in Afula, I heard screams of ‘terrorist, knife,’ and then began to close in on the terrorist – myself, an IDF soldier, and a civilian security guard,” said “Bet.”
He continued, “when we were close to the terrorist, seeing the drawn knife [in her hand,] and that she continued advancing towards us, we fired at her accurately in order to neutralize the threat,” before removing the knife from her hand.
“Bet” added, “In these crazy times, our duty is to maintain the security and peace of Israel’s citizens, and we will continue to do so.”
Israeli Arab Member of Knesset Yousef Jabareen, from the Joint List Party, condemned the handling of the incident by Israeli security forces.
Jabareen said the security forces’ actions shown in the video “aroused great anger” among Israeli Arabs. “It was obvious the girl posed no immediate danger that justified shooting her,” he claimed.
