The Israeli press on Monday aired footage from last Saturday’s stabbing attack against Israeli Border Police near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem.

The video, caught on closed-circuit television, shows about a minute-and-a-half of footage before and during the attack, in which three officers of the Border Police were wounded just outside the Old City.

The officers are seen approaching the terrorist for a standard security check, when he suddenly pulls out a knife and starts stabbing them. As he lashes out at other officers, another shoots him dead.

One Border Policeman was critically wounded by friendly fire during the frenzied attack. Two other Border Police were left in moderate condition from stab wounds they sustained.

Jerusalem District Police chief Moshe Edri told Israeli news website NRG that “the police and Border Police are operating in a complicated and challenging area, in which every person is a natural part of the environment,” which makes terrorists among them hard to spot, until they are actually in the process of committing a violent act.

The Border Police, he said, “behaved professionally and with dedication, bringing about the swift elimination of the terrorist, and providing a physical buffer protecting Jewish passers-by.”
