Weeks after the Obama administration canceled a failed Pentagon program to train and arm Syrian rebels to combat the Islamic State, American officials announced a new effort to equip ground forces in Syria to fight the jihadists.

But 10 days of interviews and front-line visits across northern Syria with many of the forces in the alliance, called the Syrian Democratic Forces, made clear that so far it exists in name only, and that the political and logistical challenges it faces are daunting.

    how bizarre that the united states, which actively promotes statehood for the so-called “palestinians” over the objections of its regional ally israel, refuses to support or even acknowledge the legitimate national aspirations of the kurdish people, for fear of offending its regional ally turkey. (even though turkey is a major component of nato, and hosts key military facilities, nonetheless, when america wanted to use them, the turks refused.)

    wouldn’t it be so much simpler to pour all the money and materiel into the kurdish forces, who have not only been fighting tenaciously against the jihadists, but also, according to this article, have the military structure and social institutions to make use of them? but instead, the obama administration has greenlighted the turks to bomb kurdish forces, and the turks continue to support their ineffective sunni jihadist groups.

    “stupid is as stupid does…”
