The following cartoon was posted recently on the Facebook page of The Economist:

The Economist cartoon.

The Economist cartoon.

The cartoon was originally published by The Economist in July 2014, during the war between Hamas and Israel.

As a friend on Facebook suggested, the cartoon’s goal is not to educate, or to provide a unique insight into the war, but rather to reinforce lazy stereotypes of Israel as a cruel, malicious Goliath inflicting gratuitous violence on innocent victims.

It’s especially troubling that a London-based publication that fancies itself a centrist magazine providing “authoritative insight and opinion” would endorse such a facile and extraordinarily misleading graphic commentary.

(See here for another example of an egregiously biased cartoon about Israel by the same cartoonist.)

Long live freedom of speech. I do not laugh with you Kevin. But compared to Hebdo, you are a coward. We will not come after you like the Muslims did for him. Making a living out of us, you will have a long life. This only fact proves that you are a liar.

Ignorance is alive and well and living in England. The cartoonist is being paid for his bigotry, no doubt, but the editor? Like the New York Times, they seem to thrive on hatred over truth and reason. It’s time they took a trip to the countries in the Middle East, Israel and any of the Muslim countries of choice and learned something on their own. Learning is the key; closemindedness is not.,

  • The territory envisaged in the Balfour Declaration as being reserved for the Jewish Homeland included Jordan.
Britain lopped it off. The territory offered to Jews in Palestine by the Peel Commission was more than that offered to the Palestinians, much to the disgust of the latter, but 60% of it was the Negev Desert.

Owing to Arab pressure the number of Jews permitted by the British to enter Palestine under the White Paper of 1939 was a yearly figure of 15,000. By 1941 the Nazis and their allies were murdering that number almost daily but that did not induce the British to change their immigration policy.

A British motto: “Thou shalt not kill but needest not strive, officiously to keep alive.”

The international “liberal” elite is increasingly anti-Semitic – obsessed with supporting deals with the Islamists (both Sunni and Shia). And the Economist is the house journal of the international “liberal” elite. Keynesian, pro open borders, multicultural – and on and on. It does not see that the forces it favours are totally hostile to liberalism in any real sense of the word liberalism.

Is this old fashion Christian antisemitism? Unrelated to Jesusism.
They used his name to make a very lucrative business called Christianity then Catholicism.

    • Bindon Blood

No ,it’s just plain leftist antisemitism and and hatred of anything ,anyone who supports Western Society. These idiots are wilfully blind to truth and justice. Who reads the publication anyway? Very few. They mainly preach to their own kind. Don’t bring attention to their bigotry; that is what they want. Ignore them.

Strange that the Economist should republish this sickening “cartoon” at the very time the British and their great ally the US are conducting bombing campaigns in Syria and Iraq killing many innocent civilians in the process. What a bunch of hypocrites!

  • Europeans, including the British remain the worst antisemites in the world, in spite of the fact that the British Royal Family are Jewish. That is if you believe the conspiracy theory websites. Don’t hold your breath for a ‘fair and balanced’ treatment of Israel anytime soon from Europe.

    • Bindon Blood

You are right about Europe but wrong about Britain. The British have absolutely no problem with the Jews. The lefty elite are more likely to be anti Jewish and pro Islam because it suits their left wing agenda but the people do not share these attitudes. The threat to Jews in Britain come from militant Muslims and the lefty elites, not British Christians ,or atheists come to that.

“When the Four Gospels and all the Nazi idolazers of Luther spewed all that poison against the Jews, they were saying more about themselves than about the Jews.

    • Bindon Blood

There is nothing anti Jewish in the 4 gospels,or the letters of Paul or any other book of the New Testament. Quite the contrary. I don’t know where you get that impression from.

  • Myron Slater

The newspapers in the UK are anti-Semitic, even those owned by Jews. Just look back at the way they treated Jews during and after the 2nd World War. But they welcomed the Arabs to their country!

there is no British culture any longer. that is gone. what you are seeing is the crumpled up pandering to their muslim overseers. anything anti semitic will do fine. of course, when the muslim creatures from the primordial swamp with no brain who only move on instinct sniff their asses instinct shall indeed kick in. the BBC is really just the poster child for all of europe, who can’t seem to get with western civilization as a primary motivating force for anything and everything good for humanity. including, but not limited to freedoms. which i suppose is not really all that important to the europeans since they didn’t seem to really miss it buried under the nazis and aren’t at odds, at least on the surface, with the deathcult of Islam. i dunno maybe when your gay kid ends up hanging off a crane or your wife’s clit gets sawed off the willingness to trade off may taper down. who can say.

    • Bindon Blood

Unnecessarily crude in parts but also correct in parts. But what you say applies to the lefty establishment ,not the people. The average British citizen has no sympathy with Islam but will tolerate it ,up to a point, providing it does not encroach on their lives too much. The people ,believe me,are getting pretty sick of Islam being rammed down their throats alongside their supposed white ,imperialist guilt. The elite and the people are very much not in tune. Something has to give ,in time it will.
