US Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro and Israeli Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked met on Sunday to discuss contentious draft legislation to toughen rules on Israeli rights groups which receive the majority of their funds from abroad.

Shapiro sought to receive more information regarding the controversial bill after US officials last week expressed concerns about the dangers it could pose to a “free and functioning civil society.”

    This administration has completely sold out national security to go after Israel.

    Instead of 50% it should be any amount. How is this an affront to democracy. In fact, it is just the opposite. It is not a “risk to an open society” but rather an expansion of openness. It’s rather suspicious that the US and the EU are so adamantly against this law, since these are those who are the major players in the “peace process”. I suspect we would find much more involvement by these entities than would be imagined. What other NGO’s are involved in affecting Israeli policies. Could this be a can of worms that would reach farther than anyone, even the authors, could foresee, including actions that have been taken against the “far right” in Judea and Samaria.

    Anything that will benefit Israel at the moment, the USA will be against. Let me restate that, anything that will benefit Israel, the Obama administration will be against, most of the USA supports Israel.
