Israel remains in favor of installing security cameras at the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem, even after Jordan reneged on the project due to Palestinian reservations, a senior official said Tuesday.

“Israel’s support for placing cameras on the Temple Mount remains unchanged. That’s because we believe in transparency,” the Israeli official told AFP on condition of anonymity, using the Jewish term for the site.

    The cameras are a bad idea. They will make the Temple Mount even more of a spectacle. They will give the Arabs opportunities to attack Jews, and gain credit in the Moslem world for doing it. Rather than “expose” Arab violence, the cameras will encourage it, by giving it worldwide publicity.
