The head of the umbrella organization for French Jewry expressed outrage on Tuesday, following the decision to release a key suspect in a terrorist attack on a Paris synagogue in 1980, the Hebrew news site nrg reported.

According to the report, CRIF president Roger Cukierman condemned the release of Hassan Diab, a 62-year-old Lebanese Canadian who was extradited to France and imprisoned in November 2014 for the bombing attack on the French-Israeli Union Liberale, in which four people were killed and another 46 wounded.

Cukierman, who said that Diab’s arrest and extradition had been signs of “justice and the determination to combat terrorism,” called the announcement of his release “scandalous and irresponsible.”

“It is an insult to the victims and their families. And it will be translated as France’s weakness in the face of terrorism,” he said.

Diab was arrested in Canada in 2008, on the basis of German intelligence gathered during the years following the bombing. Three years later, in 2011, a judge in Ottawa agreed to a French request to extradite him, so that he could be put on trial for murder.

At the time of the terrorist attack, French security services determined that Diab was a member of the terror group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine — something he continues to deny.

But this week, he was released on bail from a French prison, after his ex-wife provided him with an alibi. Diab, who has maintained his innocence since the Oct. 3, 1980 bombing, had taught sociology at two universities in Ottowa.

Explain to me; why are Jews willing to stay in France? Despite the rhetoric to the contrary, we are not truly citizens in any country outside of Israel; we are renters until eviction.

  • Meanwhile, back here in Ottawa, Canada, the liberal rag “The Ottawa Citizen” is crowing about how it was always unjust to jail a poor swarthy person simply for allegedly blowing up some Jews way back when, and they are quite happy that Diab has been released back into the general French population at large. Besides, they argued today, since he’ll probably show up at his next hearing, that alone will give the lie to all the contentions that he had ever needed to be restrained in the first place. You just can’t make this stuff up. Generally they seem to be insisting that since he’s been under house arrest living with his family for years, and has therefore been cowed into being a good boy, he probably won’t ever bomb another synagogue or Jewish daycare centre in his life, so he’s been punished and humiliated enough by having been caught the first time, so they’re quite proud that those “progressive” French judges have decided to let him off.

  • The French ARE full of weak-mindedness and appeasement. It would have been helpful however if this article had a). been signed b). told us HOW LONG the 2014 sentence was and 3). whether ‘on bail’ means TOTAL release or something less.

Until these matters are made clear, I for one, cannot rise to my full height of outrage at the actions of the perfidious French.

If Osama bin Laden stuck to killing just Jew’s he’d
still be walking around a free man.

    The French are still Swine.

Ahhhhhh, the French show their cowardly colors….again…and again…and again…..

It is not very surprising that murderers go virtually unpunished so long as their victims were Jewish. Think of the thousands of SS concentration camp guards who have never been even prosecuted for their heinous crimes. France is merely following in this grand tradition!!

    • It was also the French who gave sanctuary to Hitler’s Grand Mufti (Yasser Arafat’s uncle, Haj-Amin al-Husseini) so he could avoid prosecution for his part in the shoah after WWII.

  • When you don’t have real power and you’re weak that’s what happens.

There is no fear of the Jews rioting or doing something dangerous to stop this killer from being released.

Perhaps if Jews can learn a lesson from the Arabs or blacks they would be more respected.

In other words the Holocaust has taught the Jews nothing.

    • Are you kidding me?! The one or two instance of alleged Israeli “terrorism” from long decades past are still to this very day regularly trotted out as evidence enough of Jewish perfidy to satisfy the liberal enemedia. Ramping it up to try to imitate the islamic crime-gang would be criminally insane.

LOL, and the anti semitic frogs want to broker a peace deal

The french lost the last war when they surrendered. They are losers and again, they will lose the war coming soon to Europe

Why wasn’t he returned to Canada to finish his sentence? Is extradition the 21st century Get-Out-of-Jail-Free card?

    • Returned to Canada?! We just finally got rid of him last year, after decades of him appealing the many extradition rulings!
The French wanted to try him (well, past French governments, not the current socialist one) so they finally got him, BUT that being said, it looks like they will now either find him not guilty – upon which both France and Canada will no-doubt owe him tens of millions of dollars in “reparations” – or they’ll decide he’s been punished enough already anyway.

  • Can they print the “Alibi” for all to see????

  • This is the problem with arresting terrorists. If you kill them then there are no chances of them killing again. Once a terrorist always a terrorist and soon this savage will be plotting his next attempt at martyrdom. Any kindness or forgiveness given to Islam will result in more deaths to the innocent.

Did you expect the French to act any differently? Have you forgotten how the French made deals with various Palestinian faction in the late 70’s and 80’s to avoid attacks on French interests? I really hate generalizing all French people but I can generalize the actions of the French governments as unprincipled at best. But remember France: what goes around, comes around!

Leave it to the French! They are giving away their country! They are idiots!

  • Arthur L. Alexander

The release of this murderer appears to be an expression of how justice operates in France when the murdered were only Jews.

  • Hillel

Now what did you expect from the French?

  • Rita Crespi

Big Surprise? NOT! France continues to show it’s anti-Semitism every chance they get and since the UN and EU are as useless as tits on a bull, nothing will be done about it! They are a disgrace to humanity! After what they did during WW2, they should have been charged with ‘crimes against humanity’ , the same as Germany!
