A Vatican official issued a call on Monday to convert all non-Christians, other than Jews, the Catholic Herald reported.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, the head of the Church’s Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, made this statement during an interfaith meeting of senior Catholic and Jewish leaders held by Cambridge University’s Woolf Institute.

“We have a mission to convert Muslims to Christianity,” he said, pointing especially to jihadists, like those belonging to ISIS, who persecute Christians in the Middle East. “We have a mission to convert all non-Christian religions’ people [except] Judaism.”

Koch — who served as the Bishop of Basel in Switzerland before being appointed to serve in the Vatican in Rome — said Jews are excluded from conversion because Christianity was born from Judaism. Despite religious differences, Koch said Christianity and Judaism share a special bond and urged Christians to view Judaism as a “mother.”

Mother of Islamist Gunman Mohammed Merah, Who Murdered Rabbi and 3 Children in French Jewish School Attack, Causes Outrage at Ongoing Terror Trial

Chaotic scenes broke out on Wednesday at the trial in France of the brother of an Islamist extremist who carried...

“It is very clear that we can speak about three Abrahamic religions but we cannot deny that the view of Abraham in Jewish and the Christian tradition and the Islamic tradition is not the same,” he said. “In this sense we have only with Jewish people this unique relationship that we do not have with Islam.”

Koch’s comments against converting Jews echo previous calls made by the Vatican on this issue. In December, in a landmark document, the Vatican announced Catholics must stop missionizing Jews and should work alongside them to combat antisemitism.

The document — published by the Vatican’s Commission for Religious Relations with Jews — stated that God never annulled his covenant with the Jewish people and “the Church is therefore obligated to view evangelization to Jews, who believe in one God, in a different manner from that to people of other religions and world views.” The Vatican’s historic shift in policy came around the same time as the 50th anniversary of the Nostra Aetate, a historic document that absolved Jews collectively for the death of Jesus and began a major theological shift within the Church.

What you need to look at is the effect this will have on the believing body of the Catholic Church. I feel it is a positive one. God never annulled his covenant with the Jewish people and Christianity was born from Judaism. Those are strong words and will have a profound effect on the Catholic believer. As Isis and every other Islamic terrorist organization are circling Israel with the help of the U.N. Claiming Netanyahu is a right wing extremist…..I do not know what part of right they do not understand?…..it is a nice gesture an olive branch to have a Cardinal reaching out to the Jews. The Angels ascertain the underlying…the hidden motives and deep set beleifs of individuals as they enter the slaughter that will occur as the finale conflict for the battle of Ihe Israeli civilization begins. God brings in the long swords with strict instructions to slay those that oppose the existence of Israel. The Pope knows this and is attempting to save his flock. But he must appease the Islamic world as he walks the guantlet of political correctness or Isis will dismantle Rome and start killing Catholic believers worldwide. Be wise as serpents but peaceful as doves that was Jesus instructions to certain disciples. Israel will soon be fighting enemy’s in the streets of their city’s, the Huns have you circled and they are moving in for the slaughter, the citizens of Israel will soon kiss the ground their right wing extremists walk on.

Assuming this is not a report from the onion, I think it would make the world a safer place

  • What can I say after 2000 years of Christianity killing Jew? Gee, Thanks.

Well, Actually, No thanks. Just go away and leave the Jewish people and Israel alone. You have done enough damage. Calling Abu Mazin an “Angel of Peace” was the final straw.

    • I thought the Pope referred to Mr Abbas as an “angel of peace” perhaps more as a challenge; you know, what could be. Still, I think that has been lost on Mr Abbas!

This whole business of trying to convert people is distasteful, whether Jews are exempted or not. It’s a kind of arrogance. To some extent, everyone thinks his or her religion is the best; that’s why he or she follows a particular religion. But missionary activity goes too far.

On the other hand, I think that some streams of Judaism are overly discouraging in their encounters with people expressing interest in converting. In this day and age when many people consider Jews to be a mere ethnicity, now more than ever we need real Jews — people who consider Judaism to be a way of life for themselves, whatever that might mean to them. Converts usually have that motivation. Probably all Jews should be Jews by choice, making an active decision in their lives to follow the Jewish way.

It is an ethnicity which happens to belive in one god. The belief or “religion” has no name. To bundle it as a religion opens the Jews up to the attacks we have suffered for 2000 years. however the media and others equate Islam as an ethnic group to counter Jewish legitimacy. You must see that. If we jews cant get it rigt then what acn we expect from the goyim.
