Jewish Artists Matisyahu, Kosha Dillz Premiere Music Video for Anti-BDS-Inspired Track ‘Dodging Bullets’
The music video for Jewish rapper Kosha Dillz’s song Dodging Bullets, which features reggae singer Matisyahu, premiered on Tuesday.
In the video, the artists belt the track from a desert. It ends with clips from a concert performance of the song, which has a different meaning for both Jewish artists.
“When Matis wrote the hook, it first sounded like ‘dodging bullets’ from war, but I soon learned it was a metaphor for personal relationships,” Dillz told Billboard. “For me, the song has come to represent so much more upon performing it. Every time we play it, it makes you feel different. That is powerful to me.”
Matisyahu said the single is referring to “antisemitic attacks against Jews and Israelis by the BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions] movement.” Matisyahu became all too familiar with the phenomenon after anti-Israel activists pressured him to cancel a performance at a Spanish festival in August 2015. The Algemeiner previously reported that when the artist refused to comply, festival organizers cancelled his concert. Following outrage from Jewish groups, the concert organizers issued a public apology to the singer, and invited him back.
“This particular ‘bullet’ backfired on the BDS movement, as Jews and non-Jews spoke up about the injustice of the only publicly recognized Jew on the festival lineup being called out to promote a political agenda,” Matisyahu recalled. “The outcry from fans of all backgrounds grew loud enough that even the country of Spain itself denounced the festival for giving into the BDS movement, and as a result, the festival asked me to perform again.”
Mastisyahu added that during the concert, close to 100 “BDS ‘bullies’ created a pyramid of antagonism” by trying to block his view of audience members with large Palestinian flags. He said the anti-Israel activists also gave him the middle finger throughout the performance, threw shoes at him and held racist signs, such as one calling him “Naziyahu.”
Dodging Bullets will be on Kosha Dillz’s upcoming album, “What I Do All Day & Pickle,” which is set for release on July 15. Watch the music video below.
