Like many fellow Jews, I fought for black voting and civil rights in the 1960s. I participated in sit-ins, marched, traveled to Mississippi, and was arrested there. I — and virtually every Jew and Jewish organization — rightfully continue to support equal rights and fair and unbiased treatment of African-Americans, and everyone else, today.

However, the abiding Jewish support for black equality should not blind any organization into supporting the anti-police, antisemitic, anti-Israel #BlackLivesMatter movement. Therefore, my organization, the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), is urging the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to discontinue ADL’s statements and educational materials promoting the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Here’s why:

The coordinated ambush and assassination of five innocent Dallas police officers and wounding of seven more, is another horrifying chapter in the “war on cops” targeting our country’s first line of defense. One of the shooters cited “Black Lives Matter” and said that he “wanted to kill white people, especially white officers.”

The #BlackLivesMatter movement’s incitement of anti-police violence helped create the environment that led to the Dallas massacre of police officers, according to experts including former New York City Police Commissioner Howard Safir; US CENTCOM official Colonel Derek Harvey, and National Association of Police Organizations Executive Director William Johnson. Johnson stated:

“It’s a war on cops. . . . I think their [the Obama administration’s] continued appeasement at the federal level with the Department of Justice, their appeasement of violent criminals, their refusal to condemn movements like Black Lives Matter actively calling for the death of police officers, that type of thing, all the while blaming police for the problems of this country has directly led to the climate that has made Dallas possible.”

#BlackLivesMatter “Million Marchers” strode through New York City streets chanting: “What do we want? Dead cops! When do we want it? Now!” (Video) Just hours after a black shooter murdered a white law enforcement officer who was putting gas into his car, #BlackLivesMatter movement activists marched in St. Louis cruelly chanting: “Pigs in a blanket, Fry ‘em like bacon.” (Video) After hearing #BlackLivesMatter’s calls to kill police officers, Bill O’Reilly named #BlackLivesMatter a “hate group.”

#BlackLivesMatter members’ incitement to murder police is good reason for every decent organization to condemn the #BlackLivesMatter movement. In addition, self-respecting Jewish and pro-Israel organizations should also condemn and refuse to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement because #BlackLivesMatter is permeated with Jew hatred, and has allied itself with anti-Israel hate groups that seek to destroy and boycott Israel.

At Ferguson and other protests, #BlackLivesMatter and anti-Israel pro-Palestinian Arab activists chant and carry banners proclaiming: “From Palestine to Ferguson, End Racism Now” and “From Ferguson to Palestine, Occupation is a Crime.”

#BlackLivesMatter co-founder Patrisse Cullors, and over 1,000 black “social justice” activists, including other leading #BlackLivesMatter activists and allies, signed a vicious antisemitic, anti-Israel manifesto called the “2015 Black Solidarity Statement with Palestine,” falsely accusing Israel of “ethnic cleansing,” “brutality,” “massacres,” “apartheid,” “theft,” and “one-sided slaughter.” The “Black Solidarity with Palestine statement” also “wholeheartedly endorsed” BDS. The statement also touted international trips by “representatives of Black Lives Matter, Ferguson and other racial justice groups to Palestine” to strengthen their “joint struggle.”

#BlackLivesMatter and anti-Israel groups also do “teach-ins” based on their hateful propaganda video entitled “When I see them, I see us,” which likens Gazan “victims of Israel” to American black victims of police shootings. On April 3, 2016, #BlackLivesMatter and the Cincinnati Palestine Solidarity Coalition hosted such a “teach in” to build — “Solidarity Between the Movements for Black and Palestinian Liberation” — at Cincinnati’s Clifton Mosque. The anti-Israel hate group Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP)’s national conference in Boston featured #BlackLivesMatter activists.

Incredibly, the ADL supports #BlackLivesMatter in various fora. ADL head Jonathan Greenblatt said that: “. . . making sure that “Black Lives Matter”. . . . are the struggles of our time” in his recent speech to extremist anti-Israel, Soros-funded J Street U.

ADL’s website contains at least 8 misleading “lesson plans,” “curriculum resources” and “family discussion guides” that bolster the “BlackLivesMovement” and/or its racist theories such as “unearned white privilege.” Thousands of impressionable youngsters may be misled by ADL’s damaging lessons.

ADL’s lesson plan entitled “What is Happening in Ferguson, MO” encourages students in grades 9 to 12 to join and assist the protests, vigils, and other activism protesting the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson. Notably, these are the very same protests and vigils that demand an end to Israel’s existence, using anti-Israel “From Ferguson to Palestine, Occupation is a Crime” chants and banners!

ADL’s lesson plans also bolster the “hands up” lie at the root of the #BlackLivesMatter” movement, by failing to mention that the exhaustive DOJ/FBI/U.S. Attorney’s investigation found that Michael Brown was shot in Ferguson while charging at police officer Wilson, and that Brown’s hands were not up in the air.  The resulting DOJ report concluded: “The evidence establishes that the shots fired by Wilson after Brown turned around were in self-defense.” Instead, ADL’s “What is Happening in Ferguson, MO” lesson and “Exploring Solutions to Address Racial Disparity Concerns” lesson portray “hands up” as at least as likely a scenario as self-defense.

Similarly, ADL fails to mention that the DOJ report and recordings showed that Officer Wilson knew that Michael Brown had just committed a robbery. ADL’s lessons instead leave the impression that Officer Wilson did not know about the robbery (thereby implying that the officer encountered Brown without cause).

ADL’s lesson plans also contain misleading, selective police shooting statistics; frequently fail to present self-defense claims, or present self defense as an example of “racial profiling”; and promote the racist, divisive “unearned white privilege” theory.

It’s time for ADL to stop fighting for the antisemitic BlackLivesMatter movement and spend all its energies fighting antisemitism.

Looks like my boots aren’t tall enough for this article. You just got your BS all over me.

The ADL was supposed to take care only but Antisemitism. Suddenly there are interfering in Politics and being politically correct. When a Jewish Organization is telling me that it is a free Speech when talking about BDS I don’t need anymore enemies. They became like J Street, Peace now and Hias who is now working to settle the Sudanese and the Eritreans in the USA instead of helping the Jews who are fleeing Europe to Israel (because their fear the Old Christian antisemitism that never died but was in remission and the new one courtesy of the new One the imported Muslim one.
Shame on those organizations who are siding with the enemy with Jewish money.
If you don’t believe me you can check it on Googles.

    • Boris Koppel

BLM is a typical black racist (not the only one) organizations whose activities are directed against all white people (and particularly against Jews) Shame on ADL and Hias bureaucracy for using Jewish money to support most arrant enemies of the Jewish people. Stop donating to them, send money instead to Israel to help Jewish refugees from Europe.

Here’s something people on both sides should read before reaching conclusions about any police conspiracy directed at Black Americans:

  • I was the head of the Jewish Defense League in Chicago for 10 of its 10 1/2 years. I broke off relations with New York’s Rabbi Meir Kehane early on. He was very brave, but you did things his way or it was the highway for you. I worked very closely with Chicago’s Police undercover unit, but could not reveal that connection at that time. A number of synagogues were desecrated in West Rogers Park, where many Jewish people lived in Chicago.I immediately organized patrols both in cars and inside the synagogues. My police contact introduced me to the police commander of that district and we worked on the problem together. We provided the license plates of our cars, the names of the guys in those patrolling vehicles and the routes they would drive with the approximate times. The Irish Catholic police officers supported us. At each roll call the street officers were shown the blue & white arm band each of our guys wore and told to support us in the field. No more desecrations occurred. Then the district police commander I was working with called me to tell me that Nisson Gross from the ADL called him and told him to arrest me because the JDL was guarding synagogues with baseball bats. The commander said thanks for the call and goodbye. In fact the commander actually apologized to me when he called me because he said, “one of your own” wants me to arrest you. I only wish a Jewish organization, the ADL, would have supported our efforts to protect our heritage like the Irish Catholic police. Subsequently I confronted the Jewish traitor in a public forum and told him if he had done that to me in a concentration camp I would have killed him. Need I say the feeling of being betrayed to the authorities by a Jew on the issue of protecting synagogues was heartbreaking. The traitor steered clear of me from that time on and for me he no longer existed. But be assured of one thing—almost without exception Chicago’s Jewish leadership despised me, chastised me in public, called me a Jewish Nazi in the media and scorned me at public events. Generally, I did not respond to Jews who shunned other Jews willing to fight to survive. I respected their right to disagree with the Jewish Defense League. I only wished they would have shown the same respect for us.

  • Black lives DO matter.
    So do Jewish lives.
    All lives, perhaps

  • Rational arguments won’t help solve the problem of fascist social movements. Examining the underlying conditions that fomented the current protests and confrontations might make a difference. I wrote a short blog on the raging problem here: “Understanding Black Lives Matter.”

  • Myron Slater

Why are the Jews always the scapegoat for all the problems in the world? A large percentage of Jews in the US during days of segregation, supported the African-American movement. But all that is forgotten now and we are vilified again!

  • nat cheiman

All lives matter. How can black lives matter as an only consideration? This is the stance of the Jesse Jackson/ Al Sharpton Jew hater brigade. Black people are quick to say their lives matter and that whites are racist. This flawed thinking is based on racism

    • Nathan

What has been going on of late reflects the identity politics that Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have used to build their careers. The power such politics provides to the leaders of these groups is the key to understanding why they persist and become more prominent over time.

  • Stuart Kaufman

The ADL has lost whatever remnant of decency that it once had.

  • Maxine

Why not take a stance against the Klu Klux Klan which has existed after the civil war. Such group is against everyone that is non-white yet the find favour and protection and residence in every strata of government and society. These are not racist groups, that is misnamed. These are terrorist groups who have terrorized Black Lives for years. They are part of the police department where they receive protection when they kill Black men and women disproportionately. Fill up the prison system for economic gains of black men on real and imagined trumped up charges. They threatened Jewish lives as well because they are so hateful. I have no record of you creating any tension to dismantle such groups.

These days everyone is fighting terrorism and it’s evils yet the Kluksters are not on the list to be reckoned with. They terrorize Black Lives on the streets, in government organizations, and in society. Why are they still in operation? They are not even denounced.

It is known that when one Jewish life is hurt Israel organization answer back with violence. So why the double standard now. As far as I am concerned if the very officers who are to serve send protect citizens can break the law and murder innocent Black men and women and get away with it because they have the government enclave to protect them then there is no law. This is what behaviours like theirs create anarchy. The tension for change happened from Blacks started Marching during Martin Luther King time and it went unnoticed up until today. Black can’t even look to the justice for any relief because the court system is rife with judicial members willing to trump the law for economic gains. I hear no protest about that. In fact it is embraced and encouraged over the years by all in authority.

So stop condemning Black Lives Matter group who is trying to help. We are all hurting because of the hatred and hate terrorism levied against us. It unfortunate it had to take this ugly event to bring attention to a serious seething problem that everyone in authority turn a blind eye to. The blame falls at the feet of everyone in authority for not making sure to solve this serious disproportionate problem for its less valued citizen. Sick and sad all in one.

It is our problem to solve. So unloading Black Lives or not it is still a problem to solve. Mistakes will be made when emotions run high. That is the price society pays for not making sure all its citizens are protected and dealt with fairly. If you can’t be part of the solution it is every man for himself then you are part of the problem. Very sad indeed.

According to the FBI’s 2014 Crime Statistics, 80% of homicicides against blacks were committed by blacks. 82% of homicides against white were perpetrated by whites. Blacks accounted for 15% of homicides against whites and whites accounted for 8 % of homicides against blacks. As to people killed by law enforcement, according to the CDC, the ratio is 1.5 whites killed by police to every black person killed by police.

But by all means, don’t let facts keep you from reveling in the anti-American left wing brainwashing that allows black Americans to blame the police or the KKK for the gang culture that is succeeding in destroying their children and grandchildren. Just keep blaming the KKK and continue to drive the nation deeper into the abyss with revolution and anarchy. History will surely grace your memory with the all the honor it deserves.

    • Frankie

If you were correct about KKK activity, we would be hearing as much about it as we are about the officer-on-black shootings, but we’re not. That’s not because the media is covering it up — they’re mainly on the Left and the Left wants to emphasize misbehavior on the Right. The reality is that the KKK’s hayday ended about 70 years ago and it is becoming increasingly irrelevant to race relations. Ironically, Barack Obama’s imperial presidency has hurt race relations over the last several years far more than the idiocies of the KKK.

  • They won’t. The ADL has been hijacked by the far left and is now only pandering to them. Fighting anti-Semitism has been politicised by the ADL. Shame on them!

  • Great article! It’s not your Uncle’s ADL, these days….

  • Jeffrey Zucker

The Earthquake happening in the Los Angeles environs are not natural. They are caused by my late cousin, Charles Goldring, spinning in his crypt. Charles was an active member and supporter of the ADL and it would be hard for me to believe that he would put up with the support of the Black Life Matters group. As Jews who lived through the 50’s and 60’s we supported MLK and his movement with our money and our blood. BLM is not MLK!

  • I have been greatly disappointed in the ADL for a couple of years now. Now, the ADL’s support of Black Lives Matter has added more ammunition to this disappointment, and quite frankly, growing anger, as the ADL has repeatedly been the water-carrier for this PC-driven administration on (bad) racial relations and Islam.

It should be no surprise to anyone that BLM and Islam are intimately intertwined.

Here are some other sources to open eyes about BLM and also Islam’s, specifically the Muslim Brotherhood, involvement.
