It is now a worldwide phenomenon that left-wingers and increasing numbers of liberals chant the mantra that Israel is led by extremists and is becoming transformed into a full-fledged fascist state. Unfortunately, such unadulterated nonsense is expressed daily and is highlighted in Haaretz, the Israeli post-Zionist daily newspaper, illustrating the primitive measures that even Jewish opponents of our government are willing to take in order to demonize the Jewish state.

Their defamation includes accusations of war crimes and deliberate killing of children, applying apartheid to the Arab Israeli minority, suppressing freedom of expression and maintaining an occupation and denying Palestinian statehood. In a nutshell — a fascist regime.

Joseph Goebbels demonstrated that if one constantly repeats false propaganda without responses, people begin to accept the lies as truths.

My objective, without suggesting that we are perfect, is to briefly identify and rebut such lies and demonstrate that there is no country in the world that surpasses the level of democracy by which Israel is governed.

In addition, the extraordinary success of Israel’s democratic system is all the more impressive because it was achieved despite facing three major obstacles:

  • From its inception, Israel has been surrounded by states committed to its destruction. These neighbor states are notorious for denying basic human rights to their own citizens and in most cases are Islamic dictatorships. Over the past five years, the region has reverted to the Dark Ages with hundreds of thousands being killed and millions displaced in intra-Arab conflicts. In this context, Israel represents an oasis of stability and peace.
  • Israel has been obliged to allot a greater proportion of its budget for defense than any other nation. It is situated on the global front lines combating terrorism and must be in permanent readiness to face wars from its fanatical adversaries who remain committed to terminating Jewish sovereignty.
  • Israel is a young country that was created as a haven for Jews living under oppression or discrimination. The bulk of its founding population were survivors from the Holocaust, Jews escaping persecution from Arab countries, Russian Jews and others fleeing oppression. They range from sophisticated Russian scientists to Ethiopian farmers. Yet this motley amalgam of Jews from all corners of the world became integrated into an extraordinary nation and nurtured an exemplary democratic state.

But the drumbeat of demonization and delegitimization ignores these factors:

  • The current government is accused of being fascist and blamed for the failed peace process. The fact that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has offered concessions far beyond the red lines that the late Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin vowed he would never cross and that he has offered to negotiate without preconditions has been repeatedly ignored.
  • The majority of Europeans believe that Israel is a fascist state carrying out ghoulish genocidal policies against the Palestinians and even make obscene analogies between Israel’s self-defense and Nazi behavior. That is a true extension of medieval blood libels.
  • The accusations of racism and apartheid are bizarre. There are social and economic gaps between Jews and Arabs that require improvement. But Israeli Arabs enjoy freedom of expression, elect their own Knesset members and Arab judges even preside in the Supreme Court. Indeed, visiting an Israeli hospital, shopping mall or park provides a case study of integration.
  • Another ludicrous lie is that fascist forces are rapidly destroying freedom of expression. Much of this emanates from delusionary far left elements and is highlighted in Haaretz, which is probably the most effective source of anti-Israeli propaganda for our global adversaries. When the culture minister said she would no longer provide public funds for “cultural” activities that principally vilify Israel, she was accused of fascism. When the education minister refused to include in the school curriculum a controversial novel containing praise for Hamas that would offend many Israelis, that too was labeled fascism. The education minister was also accused of fascism for denying entry into schools to Breaking the Silence, an organization that promotes global campaigns besmirching the IDF with anonymous accusations of war crimes.
  • The Israeli Supreme Court generates both pride and anger. Pride because it is a powerful instrument challenging abuse but also anger because it is undoubtedly the most interventionist High Court in any democracy. It is frequently accused of excessively blocking legislative processes. It would certainly not qualify for inclusion in a fascist state.
  • There is unbridled freedom of expression. When institutions such as universities, funded by taxpayers and Zionist philanthropists, are used as platforms to undermine the legitimacy of the state, many sober Israelis have called for tougher legislation related to subversion and treason. Could one visualize any other government under siege that would tolerate the treasonable outbursts expressed by Arab MK Haneen Zoabi identifying with those seeking Israel’s destruction? Imagine how Winston Churchill would have reacted if a British politician publicly defended the Nazis. Yet Israel is accused of restricting freedom of expression.
  • It is alleged that Israel’s settlement policies breach international law and are thus also condemned as manifestations of fascist ideology. Yet aside from Jerusalem, these settlements consist of less than 3% of territories previously occupied by Jordan. Today, the only place in the civilized world where a Jew is considered a criminal for building or extending a home is in Judea, Samaria and east Jerusalem — which our adversaries insist must be Judenrein irrespective of what is ultimately determined in relation to the disputed territories. We are told that a Jew building a second bedroom in a legitimately purchased apartment in a Jewish neighborhood of Jerusalem is a war criminal and represents an obstacle to peace.
  • The latest objection relates to the recent legislation requiring transparency for funds directed towards Israeli nongovernmental organizations by foreign governments. These NGOs played a prominent role in disseminating lies about Israel, seeking to depict it as a fascist state, accusing it of war crimes, apartheid, genocide, and some even promoting the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement. These so called human rights organizations have provided huge sums of money and maintain a massive network to promote their agenda of demonization and delegitimization of Israel. It is unprecedented that purported friendly foreign governments pour huge sums into NGOs seeking to besmirch and overthrow our democratically elected government. The government is responding by obliging any NGO receiving the bulk of its funds from foreign governments to provide disclosure. This represents a symbolic gesture and the howls of denying freedom of speech (which is not involved) and renewed accusations of fascism are hollow. The greatest chutzpah was the reaction of American and European lawmakers condemning Israel for such a move. It would be inconceivable for any of these governments to stand by and fail to react if their neighbors were pouring in funds to local NGOs to demonize and vilify them.

To sum up, despite the overwhelming challenges, Israel remains one of the liveliest democracies in the world.

Little can be done to change the behavior of our enemies. The antisemitic Islamists, the delusionary Left and conventional antisemites will continue to pursue, through the hostile media and the internet, the perennial accusation that Jews — or today, the Jewish state — are the source of all evil.

What is disconcerting is that with US President Barack Obama’s encouragement, much of this propaganda is beginning to penetrate American liberal circles, including some people who were deeply supportive of Israel. This already includes the left wing of the Democratic Party and there are ominous signals that bipartisanship in the US may not survive the onslaught.

It thus essential to constantly speak out and refute the lies and communicate with open-minded liberals, especially young people, to prevent them from being drawn into the left-wing anti-Israeli maelstrom where they can be brainwashed into believing the lies about Israelis becoming fascists. That will not be achieved by remaining silent or obsessively maintaining a bipartisan relationship by accepting the lowest common denominator.

  • The Arabs do not belong in Greater Israel. They have over 12 million sq. km. they received after WWI, they have Jordan which is Jewish territory and they have the homes and over 120,000 sq. km. of land the Arab countries confiscated when they terrorized and expelled over a million Jewish families who now reside in Israel. When you practice hate, terror and violence, I do not want you near me. Arabs get out now out of Israel, that includes the silent majority, that by not objecting they become complicit to the violence.
Any Jew that thinks all the land of Israel does not belongs to the Jews has a choice to leave Israel. Is it not enough that the Arabs/Muhammad killed and raped the Jews in Medina which was a Jewish city going back thousands of years, and the Arab countries terrorized and expelled over a million Jewish families and confiscated all their assets including homes and over 75,000 sq. mi. of Jewish owned land for thousands of years. Those expelled Jewish families and their children now live in Greater Israel. Death to all terrorists is a must, no mercy. The Arabs also have Jordan which is Jewish territory established as the new Arab state for the Arabs in Palestine.
The Oslo Accords are null and void as Stated by Abbas at the UN in the summer of 2015. The Arab/Palestinians never abided by its terms and never intended to abide by its terms. It was a deceptive way to get control of the territory as a prelude to commit terror and take over the rest of Israel. The best example you have is the terrorist state in Gaza and the increased terror and violence from the Arabs in Judea and Samaria aka The West Bank. The Arab/Palestinian state was created in Jordan which is on Jewish territory. All the territory west of the Jordan River must be taken back under Israeli control. That includes Gush Katif and all the Jewish communities in the Gaza Strip vacated by Israel Ariel Sharon in 2005. The Arab PA must be dismantled.

  • Israel stands in the way and is an obstacle to full Muslim domination of the Middle East. The West fears Islamic aggression (which has been going on since WW1), and is opting for appeasement. Propaganda is being used to try to convince people that Muslims in Israel, and in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and Golan Heights, are being mistreated. Islamist forces have conducted maneuvers at the borders of Israel, and have continuously lobbed thousands of rockets and missiles into Israel’s population centers; they constructed tunnels to commit terror and violence in Israel. Islam constantly threatens Israel, often using language that proclaims a desire for the complete destruction of Israel. The Arab-Palestinians have spoken to the world, proclaiming parts of Israel to belong to them. While ignoring the issue that the Arab countries terrorized and expelled over a million Jewish families who lived in Arab lands for over 2600 years and due to the expulsion and the confiscation of all the assets including over 120,000 sq. km. of land, they are now residing in Israel.
Peace in the Middle East is desired at any cost by the Western Appeasers, which harms Israel safety. The unrest is being blamed on Israel. Islam promises that the Arab-Palestinian claims are the last they will make in Israel. If land is traded for peace, they say, and then the unrest in the Middle East will ease, but not diminish, which is a delusion and not reality.
The Western Leaders, fearful that if the Muslims are not appeased the world could plunge into terrorism (which it has already and increasing daily), have decided they need to negotiate with the Arab-Palestinians, grant them the Statehood they suddenly desire, and grant them their demands for the purpose of a delusional and false peace.
As The West prepares for more appeasement and capitulation, the forces of jihadism are on the rise in Egypt, Syria, Turkey and Iran and extends to Pakistan, Afghanistan and former Russian states. Egypt’s peace with Israel has been guaranteed by U.S. involvement, and land for peace. The treaty with Egypt was based on the proposition of the Sinai in 1982 for peace. The Islamists moving into position to gain power in Egypt places the treaty at risk. They have no intention of abiding by its provisions. But the overthrow of the Brotherhood restored some control in Egypt. The 1994 peace treaty with Jordan has improved some conditions, a full fledge economic relations with Jordan and Egypt is not in the cards at this time.
The concept of land for peace has failed, as it failed prior to WW2. Islamism does not care about land. Islamism only cares about the destruction of Israel, the destruction of non-Islamic societies, and ultimately the worldwide domination of Islam through a Muslim caliphate.
Israel gives land because they want the Arabs to abide by peace agreements. Israel craves peace, but deep down knows that it is not possible, it is a hope only. Islam has made it loud and clear that land for peace is a one way street. Israeli land giveaways are permanent, but Islamic commitments to peace are revoked at any time. In the Islamic religion it is permitted to falsify and not tell the truth.
With the current presidential administration in the United States, and the liberal socialists in control of the biased U.N. and Europe, Israel stands alone. No one plans to stand up for Israel’s right to exist, as history has proven, the Jewish people have ultimately been abandoned by the world nations. The Muslim Brotherhood and Salafist parties are working to take an absolute majority in Egypt and other Muslim countries, but The West has fallen for the propaganda that claims these parties are moderate and pragmatic. ISIS has proven that this approach is wrong and detrimental to peaceful coexistence.
The fact is, the rising Islamist control over the Muslim nations has no intention of respecting treaties, or Israel’s right to exist. They are waiting for conflict, and then will blame it on Israel. Talks are doomed to failure. The Islamists want it that way or the highway.
Land for Peace fails. Liberalism fails. Only a strong and direct military posture with no-holds-barred with zero tolerance that stands up against the rising threat will succeed. . . but the appeasers refuse to learn from history, and like Neville Chamberlain with Germany, Barack Obama and his fellow appeasers are positioning the world for a new world conflict that could turn the world to ashes.

  • No Jew or Jewish government has the right to evict Jews from their historical land in Greater Israel. “Israel, including Judea and Samaria, and the land east of the Jordan River has been the land of the Jewish people since time immemorial, over 30 centuries. Judea means Land of the Jews. Never in the history of the world has there been an autonomous state in the area that was not Jewish.” There has never been a Nation known as Arab Palestine. The Arabs received over five million sq. mi. of territory, but that was not enough. Violating international law and treaty the British allocated over three quarters of Jewish allocated land to the Arabs as the new Arab state of Jordan. Now the Arabs want more; they will not stop until they have all of Israel without the Jews. The Arab countries expelled over a million Jewish families and confiscated all their assets including businesses, homes and over 75,000 sq. mi. of Jewish owned land for over 25 centuries.
The Oslo Accord is null and void as Abbas stated in the summer of 2015 at the U.N.
You; the Arabs have murdered the Jews and others and now you want to inherit them?

In view of past history of persecution; Israel and the Jews have an obsolete obligation to defend themselves at all costs. NEVER AGAIN. It must be in action not just words.

  • Israel must build at least 100,000 housing units per year in Judea and Samaria for the next 10 years and more. It also needs to build 3 secure superhighway connecting Judea and Samaria to Israel.
Construct extensive military bases in Judea and Samaria to protect the people and the country.
Israel also needs to build at least 50,000 housing units per year in greater Jerusalem. Open Atarot airport and a high tech center and more industry, and build many additional roads and secure highways in and from Jerusalem with expanded rail system.
Israel must also build a minimum of 10,000 housing units in the Galil and 10,000 housing units in the Negev every year for the next ten years and expand the infrastructure, roads and highways. They have to expand industry and commerce to enhance the desire of people to live in the Galil and the Negev.
Construct military bases and local agencies in Judea and Samaria to protect and help the people and the country.
    YJ Draiman
P.S. The Arabs have already an Arab Palestinian state which is on Jewish land over three times the size of Israel, east of the Jordan River; it is called Jordan where 80% of the population are Arab Palestinians and the Arabs in Judea and Samaria have a Jordanian passport.
Oslo accords are null and void. Israel must dismantle the Arab PA and include Judea and Samaria as a continuous part of Israel. Transfer Arab population to Jordan, Gaza and to the homes and the over 120,000 sq. km. the Arab countries confiscated from the Million Jewish families they expelled who now reside in Israel.

It is essential not only to communicate with open-minded liberals but also not to demonize liberals. Doing the latter is a kind of scapegoating prevalent among those who follow right wing ideologies, which represent a kind of idolatry, a false religion. There are people in all parts of the secular political spectrum who dislike Israel, and there are also people of all political persuasions who look admiringly on Israel.
