A leading feminist who wrote an essay about the superhero Wonder Woman, to accompany a 1972 book about the 1940s comic strip, blasted the women denouncing the star of the new action movie – all for being a proud Israeli.

Responding to hostile social media posts against actress Gal Gadot that began to appear with the release this week of the “Wonder Woman” trailer, author Phyllis Chesler told The Algemeiner, “These faux feminists have been conditioned, like attack dogs on a short leash, to salivate, bark and try to bite the enemy they’ve been trained to assault.”

As was pointed out by pro-Israel blogger Elder of Ziyon on Monday, women were prominent among those tweeting anti-Gadot comments. These included:

Sorry to burst your Wonder Woman bubble.
Gal Gadot is a racist.
Gal Gadot is a racist.
Gal Gadot is a racist.
Gal Gadot is a Zionist. #NoThx
Gal gadot is a self proclaimed Zionist lmao I’m not wasting my coins and going to see Wonder Woman

Chesler, professor emerita of psychology and women’s studies at the College of Staten Island (CUNY) and the author of 15 books – most recently An American Bride in Kabul: A Memoir (2013), about her 1961 marriage to an Afghani and her time spent in his harem – said, “These ‘politically correct’ faux-feminists are afraid to rail against barbaric misogyny, honor-based violence and Islamic gender and religious apartheid as practiced in the disputed territories; they have only been empowered to blame Israel and Israelis — for the crimes committed by others. Do they believe that the Muslim-on-Muslim and Muslim-on-infidel crimes in Iraq, Syria, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan are caused by Israel? Will they reject medical cures and cellphone technology because Israelis discovered them? If not, why reject a feminist Wonder Woman because an Israeli actress is beautiful and talented enough — has been chosen above all others — to play this action figure?”

In an interview with The Algemeiner in December, Chesler answered these rhetorical questions by asserting that “Western feminists have become totally Stalinized and Palestinianized.”

Concluding by putting in a good word both for the Jewish state and the movie star in question, Chesler said,  “As all feminists know, I am passionately pro-Israel because I am passionate about the truth and about justice. Just think: It all started with me, a Zionist, just like Gal Gadot.”

In 1972-1973, Ms. magazine editor Gloria Steinem edited and introduced a book of Wonder Woman stories from the 1940s, by the original team of William Moulton Marston and Harry Peters, making the case that Marston purposely made the superhero a role model for girls and women. Chesler, a contemporary of Steinem’s and fellow feminist, wrote the interpretive essay accompanying the book.

  • I hope the film will be a BIG hit. I think Gal Gadot is perfect for the part. My sons and grandsons are big fans of superhero movies and I love them, too. I’ve waited for ages for there to finally be a “Wonder Woman” movie. I loved the tv show in the 1970’s and realize it was a hard act to follow. But Gal Gadot is perfect for the part. Yasher Koach, to both Gal and Professor Chesler. And let this film be the first of a very popular series of “Wonder Woman” movies!

Good for her! A Jewish female hero! I say,” let them suck a lemon”! In the history of the Jewish people, there have been many female hero’s.

  • I am passionately pro- anyone who is pro-Israel, Truth and Justice.

  • Barbara Krystal

It is easy for cowards to attack a safe “enemy” that they find in Israel. They use Israel as a scapegoat for their real fear of admitting and acting on the reality of abuse on women committed by the Muslim religion.

  • Bravo once again Professor Chesler! Zionism is freedom – Zionism is pride – Zionism is equality!

    “Feminism” a enormous international taqiyya!

Christian women have long wondered why the silence of the feminists regarding sharia law. The silence in American feminist circles shows extreme apathy regarding the plight of women trapped in Islam, either in the U.S. or Canada.

I might also add that Gloria Steinem can be “an attack dog” if you disagree with her. Feminists leave no room for women to think for themselves and create their own belief system.

Gal Gadot bashing is just one more example of this type of brainwashing.

  • Like. Thumbs up.

Yasher koach to Chesler for standing for truth, justice, and the American way. Baruch tia!

99% of feminists are really ugly dykes with awful personalities and no discernible skills. The truth is they’re extremely jealous of beautiful and talented women like Gadot and would try to make it with her if they had a chance.

If we’re going to talk about a Jewish state, then we should point out that “pride” is not regarded as a positive in Judaism, to say the least. The biblical references to “pride” are numerous. Self-respect and self-esteem are what we shoot for. “Pride” carries with it the connotation of superiority, as we associated with German nationalism. That pretty much explains its association with right wing zealotry.

Thank you Phylis. I too am baffled by these women. They support the countries and people who hold women down. They only know what they’ve been fed and are ignorant of the truth . I don’t have any liking for “action movies” but maybe I’ll make an exception for this one. I suppose we’ll be treated to BDS and Pali activists picketing the theaters where it plays too.

  • Meh, who cares what these totalitarian fools say, they are neither the movies target audience nor are they influential with the actual audience. Gadget is perfectly cast and if the WW movie is well written and directed, and avoid tiresome in-yer-face gender politics, it will do well regardless of these unimportant yelping cur.

  • I’m afraid that the anti-Israel elements will try to boycott the film. Therefore I’d like to call upon
All those who will see the film, purchase 2 tickets, one for yourself and one for the anti-Semite boycotting.
This way the film studio will not lose in choosing an Israeli actor. And also our support for Gal
    Gadot.
