The body language and facial expressions of the mother of a Jewish Olympic gymnast prompted a storm on social media on Monday.

Videos and photos circulating on Twitter show Lynn Raisman — mother of USA Women’s Gymnastics Team member Aly Raisman — hysterically reacting to her daughter competing at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

One Twitter user said Lynn “makes most Jewish mothers look like the Buddha.” Another wrote: “Omg @Aly_Raisman’s mom watching her perform is so cute!!!”

Watchdog Uncovers New Members in Antisemitic Student Ring at U of Tennessee That Supports Terrorism, Lauds Hitler

A ring of antisemitic students at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) has turned out to be larger than originally...

Other tweets included: “Aly_Raisman’s parents watching her uneven bars routine is my favorite Olympic sport,” and “I love watching Aly Raisman’s parents watch her compete.”

At several moments during Aly’s competition, Lynn and her husband, Rick, are seen leaning back in their seats, which inspired NBC to tweet: “@Aly_Raisman’s parents are back at it again with the shoulder lean!” and “All aboard the Raisman Roller Coaster of Emotions.”

Their “shoulder leans” spurred one Twitter user to quip, “my stress level on the first day of school: aly raisman’s parents during her uneven bar routine.”

Aly joined in the commentary by re-tweeting a post which asserted that the shoulder lean resembles something parents might do when meeting their son’s girlfriend for the first time.

The Raismans’ reactions to their daughter were deemed “gold medal worthy” by a news station in Houston, Texas, and the UK’s Daily Mail joked that the couple “make spectating its own event.”

Any parent might react this way. What was the reason for pointing out they are Jewish? I don’t get it.

Wow, I think it is great to see the truly genuine reaction of the parents to the performance of there daughter. It is great that the parents bare involved to this extent. This kind of support is rare to catch on video.May Yahweh bless the family and continue to bless them in the life they are leading.

I love it. Any parent who has had a child in sports can relate. During our daughters competitive soccer games we’d sometimes notice parents (ourselves included) kicking at an invisible ball in front of us while seated in our lawn chairs watching the game.

Two loving, doting parents’ emotional response to their child’s performance in a major international event. What’s the big deal?
