A street scene in Tulkarm. Photo: Wikimedia Commons. – Talk about bad timing for the Palestinian PR machine. Just as the Palestinian Authority seemed to have Israel’s prime minister on the defensive over his “ethnic cleansing” remark, wouldn’t you know it — two young Jewish women accidentally drove into the Palestinian Arab city of Tulkarm this week, and a Palestinian ethnic cleansing mob immediately tried to murder them.

Granted, the two women were wearing Israeli army uniforms. But so what? The US State Department and J Street are always telling us that the average Palestinian is moderate and wants to live in peace with Israelis. Why should the mere sight of an IDF uniform on a young woman fill them with murderous rage?

The two women weren’t establishing a Jewish settlement in Tulkarm. They weren’t massacring Palestinians. They weren’t oppressing anyone or implementing an apartheid regime. In fact, there hasn’t been an Israeli military government ruling Tulkarm since 1995. The Palestinian Authority has been the “occupier” there for the last 21 years.

The two young women weren’t on patrol or brandishing their weapons. They weren’t a brigade of combat soldiers in full gear. They were obviously just two young women driving by. Any rational person would have understood that they innocently took a wrong turn. The Palestinians’ response, however, was anything but rational: a mob immediately surrounded the car and tried to stone the women to death.

Think about the circumstances. The entire episode played out over a matter of minutes, at most. There wasn’t time to organize a demonstration. There wasn’t time to gather politically-minded folk from various parts of Tulkarm. The only way they could have a large, murderous mob ready for action in a matter of seconds is if there are so many ordinary people on every street corner who are potential murderers that at any given moment, there are enough of them on hand to form a spontaneous mob and try to commit multiple murders.

That sure isn’t what they promised us in the 1993 Oslo Accords. The PA promised to educate its young people to support peace and coexistence. It pledged to recognize Israel’s right to exist. It swore it would give up violence.

It goes without saying that Palestinian-Arab drivers, and Israeli-Arab drivers, routinely drive through mostly Jewish or all Jewish neighborhoods. Every one of us who visits Jerusalem sees that with our own eyes.  Mobs of Israeli Jews do not spontaneously gather and begin stoning them. But if you dare to note this difference in values and behavior, you’re called a “racist” and an “Arab hater.” Go figure.

Advocates of Palestinian statehood don’t like to talk about incidents such as the Tulkarm near-lynching. They like to pretend such things are aberrations that involve only some tiny minority of Palestinians. Yet somehow, these wrong-turn lynch mobs seem to be all over the place.

In March, two soldiers accidentally drove into what the New York Times called “an area bordering the Kalandia refugee camp, between Jerusalem and Ramallah.” So they weren’t even in Kalandia, just near it. But immediately an ethnic cleansing mob “hurled rocks and firebombs and set the vehicle ablaze.” The soldiers barely escaped alive. Times correspondent Diaa Hadid obnoxiously commented, “It was unclear why the soldiers were using Waze to navigate in the West Bank,” implying that it was all the fault of the Israelis. Hadid would never write that it was “unclear” why the Palestinians were trying to stone and burn them to death. Because we all know why they tried to stone and burn them, they were Jews.

That was just the most recent incident. I haven’t even mentioned the brutal lynching of Reserve Sgt. Amnon Pomerantz in 1990 (Google him if you’re curious), or the notorious 2000 lynching of two Jews in Ramallah by Palestinians who dipped their hands in the victims’ blood and then waved their hands triumphantly for the entire world to see.

Well, we saw those bloody hands. We won’t forget them. And no matter how many names the State Department or Peace Now call the prime minister, we understand what the Palestinians are trying to do when they try to murder someone for the “crime” of being Jewish.

  • The Consequences of Appeasement and Concessions

    The Consequences of Appeasement
The decisions made by the government of Israel since The six day war of 1967 leading up to today’s Gaza wars with Hamas including the July 2014 war, as well as those of the first ten months or so after the turnover of Gaza in 2004 began, have dumbfounded historians ever since. The appeasement of Israel to the Arabs-Palestinians, in particular, has been so often held up as an example of how not to deal with a rising terrorism that it has become a stereotype.
Had Israel stood its ground and responded to terrorism or any violence with utmost force and zero tolerance. Israel would not be facing today’s continuing terrorist attacks crisis.
As many have said – appeasement, concessions and lack of proper response to terrorism is detrimental to Israel, its people and the Jewish people worldwide.
What the Arabs could not win in wars against Israel since 1948, they won in playing the peace game, all the while building up arsenals and educating their children to hate, commit terror and violence and to destroy Israel. While the Arab leaders and politicians play the peace game and enriching their own pockets with the billions contributed by the world to help the impoverished Arab-Palestinians.
What a scheme – and the gullible world is buying it hook line and sinker.
When will the World learn that the Arabs cannot be trusted, I hope before the Arabs take over Europe completely and than the United States, Canada and Australia.
Israel must reverse its concessions and regain full control of the territories conceded in the name and trade for peace. The Terror and violence increased and the security and safety for Israel and its population has decreased substantially. It is time to abandon the delusion of peace and protect Israel and its population at all costs. Let the world and the liberal left scream. In the final outcome the world will eventually respect Israel for defending its people.

  • Why would you expect a humane and respectable behavior from the Arab-Palestinian people who are taught to hate, to commit terror and violence.

The Arabs do not belong in The Land of Israel; that includes Judea and Samaria. The past has shown that they know only terror and violence. They are killing their own people by the thousands. The Arabs/Muslims killed the Jews in Medina about 1400 years ago, which was a Jewish city going back over 2600 years and took over the city. To date nothing has changed. They want to take over the whole world. Look at what they doing in Syria, Europe and Sweden raping women and terrorizing people. The Arab Palestinians have Jordan which historically is Jewish land or the homes and the 120,000 sq. km. the Arab countries confiscated from the million Jewish families they terrorized and expelled from their countries, who now were resettle in Israel.

“In Israel; We have to undue and reverse the decades of nonsense that the peace industry has fermented, which led us to the position where the world thinks we the Jews are occupiers in our own ancestral land. If something is false and it is repeated enough times it becomes sort of common wisdom. We have to undo that.”

    Yj Draiman

To me Greater Israel is the Biblical Israel, which included a good part of the territory east of the Jordan River. The original allocation of Palestine to the Jewish people included territory east of the Jordan River and up-to the Railroad line. The best defense is offense, no capitulation to Arab or worldwide pressure; we want what is ours no exceptions. See the minutes of the 1919 Paris conference and the Faisal Weizmann Agreement of January 1919.

Stephen M. Flatow speaks the truth. May he be blessed in the New Year!

  • “Why should the mere sight of an IDF uniform on a young woman fill them with murderous rage?”

Arabs that live in PLO-occupied zones are continuously brainwashed to murder and maim Jews. It’s no wonder that any Israeli-Jew is imperiled, if he drives in the wrong area. This incitement to murder Jews will continue until the PLO terrorist gangsters are deported back to Tunis.

  • In 2008, a year after I made Aliyah, my very elderly parents flew from America to visit. I wanted to take them to the Dead Sea, so I rented a car and a GPS. I should have stuck with the map, because the GPS took me through an Arab village, where a mob instantly surrounded the car. We were saved by an Arab taxi driver who heroically braved the mob to lead us back to the highway. He was terrified, but he got us to safety and I will never forget him although he refused to give his name. I hope he was OK. Not long afterward, a group of visiting University students had the same GPS issue, but they were instantly surrounded by burning tires and only escaped by rolling underneath the car, which subsequently burst into flames. One of them had a phone that was able to pick up Israeli signal and called police, who sent an IDF patrol out to rescue them. Of course none of this makes the news in the West, and if it did they would make it seem as though we had vsomehow provoked them by entering their village. If they had been friendly to us, or at least not tried to kill us, we would probably have bought something from them. Like neighbors, you know.

  • They’re not afaid.

It will stop when Israel makes them too afraid to ever dare attack any Jew.

    When will that happen?

    Bring back Sharon, Jabotinsky, Begin.
