There is significant bipartisan concern in Washington that President Barack Obama “won’t have Israel’s back” at the United Nations following the election of his successor in November, a prominent Middle East expert told The Algemeiner on Tuesday.

Clifford D. May, president of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank, spoke with The Algemeiner a day after 88 US senators sent a letter to Obama urging him to veto any one-sided resolutions regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict during the remainder of his time in office.

The letter, which was organized by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), made “very telling points,” May told The Algemeiner.

“A one-sided UN Security Council resolution would be damaging not just to Israel, but to any possibility of peace in the near future,” May warned.

He further explained, “I think it’s fairly obvious at this point that the UN is egregiously prejudiced against Israel. And what you don’t want to see is something like what the French have been discussing — mandated negotiations, and if those negotiations fail to produce fruit, the Palestinians would be rewarded. That would assure that [Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud] Abbas would not make any concessions.”

In his final address to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, Obama said, “Israelis and Palestinians will be better off if Palestinians reject incitement and recognize the legitimacy of Israel, but Israel recognizes that it cannot permanently occupy and settle Palestinian land.”

May noted that those words would “probably feed into the concern that exists that after the election Obama will take actions that will tie the hands of the next president.”

“People in this town who are in favor of a productive peace process — those who want to see the Israelis and the Palestinians living side by side in peace — are worried and I think the idea is that if President Obama is contemplating such a move now, that needs to be discouraged,” May concluded.

In an interview with The Algemeiner last week, former State Department Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller said the signing of the new 10-year memorandum of understanding (MOU) on US security assistance to Israel might serve as a “trigger mechanism” for a fresh American-led Israeli-Palestinian peace push during the lame-duck period between the election on Nov. 8 and the inauguration of the next president on Jan. 20.

As reported by The Algemeiner, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his reservations about a potential US peace drive during a meeting last month with a visiting bipartisan delegation of American foreign policy experts.

He never has had Israel’s back because he is an ineffective do-nothing who somehow and somewhere lost his moral compass. The question is whether the next president will continue to believe that merely making a speech is doing something to solve a problem or whether the next president will be a president who does more than just talk.

  • “I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore”
How many Jewish lives have to be lost before the Israeli government takes a decisive action, no holds barred and zero tolerance? We must implement Instant death to the terrorists and no restraint to terror and violence. A terrorist is a terrorist; the age of the terrorist does not mitigate an act of terrorism, or the consequences thereof. Israel must execute mandatory eviction and demolition of homes, confiscation of property to compensate for the damage and barring Arabs in those areas. Let the Arabs know that if this terror and violence continues, the price will be high and non-negotiable. Stop talking; let’s see some serious action on the ground. This situation is spiraling out of control and the government and its security forces are deliberating and hesitating to take forceful and uncompromising actions. The Israeli government must consider first and foremost the safety and security of its people and not the biased world nations, who throughout history stood idle while Jews were killed, tortured, terrorized and persecuted. Israeli people are trained soldiers; they know how to defend themselves. If the government is not able to stop this wave of terror, it is the Job of the Israelis to defend themselves. This is not Nazi Germany; this is Israel, our own historical land with our own government and a strong defense force, use it and stop the ghetto mentality. Death to the terrorists, nothing less will suffice. May the lord support you in defending yourselves, but G-d helps those who help themselves. Israel must take a strong initiative once and for all.

Israel should give a 90 day notice the UN and the world at large that it intends to exercise its historical and international rights under the international law and treaties post WWI which are still in effect and have not been superseded. Under those treaties all of Palestine is in effect belongs to Israel. Israel will no longer tolerate the deceptive term of occupation by Israel; it is internationally guaranteed Jewish land liberated by Israel. It is the Arabs who are the occupiers.
    YJ Draiman
According to International law and treaties of post WWI, which allocated over 5 million square miles of territory to the Arabs and the 75,000 square miles of Palestine to the Jewish people, Jordan and Gaza is part of Israel, since they were part of Palestine. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt stated that he would give land in the Sinai with ocean front for the Arab Palestinians. Whether Jordan likes it or not over 70% of its population is Arabs who call themselves Palestinians.
(The UN has violated the law and the Charter of the UN by allocating Jewish territory under international law and treaties to Jordan. The UN Partition of Israel was also a violation of the UN Charter. Israel accepted, but the Arabs rejected the partition, that makes the UN partition recommendation of 1947 mute and meaningless.
Israel was reconstituted in 1920 by International law and treaties, including the 1919 Faisal Weizmann Agreement. Israel took over sovereign control on May 14, 1947 after the British abandoned their obligation and the Jewish people became a majority in the land).
People must remember that the Arab countries have terrorized, persecuted and expelled over a million Jewish families and confiscated all their assets, including over 120,000 square km. of land valued in the trillions of dollars, and most of those expelled Jewish families were resettled in Greater Israel. The Arabs expelled the million Jewish families from their Arab countries (after living there for over 2400 years, a thousand years before Islam was created), the million expelled Jewish families from Arab countries were resettled in Israel and now they want to expel them again from their own historical ancestral land. Let the Arabs from Israel relocate to the Jewish homes and land confiscated by the Arab countries.

Obama has never had Israels back in any event. He is a liar and a Muslim so expect the worst from him and you wont be surprised. Good riddance to the worlds most powerful and idiotic Muslim. And @kerryberger you are a real hamburger.

  • graylens

Obama will have Israels back. Unfortunately he will be stabbing it. Keep in mind Obamas comment to Putin that after the election he would be “freer” to do what he wanted. Obama was the first president to specifically declare the settlements to be illegal and the Israeli presence to be an occupation. He also threatened Israel with the boycott, by others, if Israel did not do as he directed and make further concessions.

  • jessejoteng

no worries here; Jews who know their Tanakh do NOT depend on any country or coalition of countries to protect them. They know YHWH will take care of them. Even if all the members of the UN will send their armies to Jerusalem, that is still nothing compared to what HaShem can do.

  • Kwitcherbellyakin

All of this is within the range of being stupid. The UN is a do nothing (but condemn Israel) body that has bad teeth. They took no steps against extreme events in so much of the world. The focus is on Israel and forgets the genocides by Assad and such. They have Russia. Now, if Israel were turning down the $38 billion arms deal, they could easily go to Putin and ask for help. I think even he sees that Israel is in the US’s sphere, and stays away. But, if Israel were to abandon the US, America would be at a loss. Lame duck Obama will not do anything to help Israel if he has a choice. Israel does not need the UN and would do better without its presence. But, this is a club where everyone feels obligated to join. But, look who the members are. Remember that they always pick some turkey from a third world nation to be the Secretary General, and a requirement is that he be blind.
Now you know why they killed Dag Hammarskjold.

  • Steve Loeb

Obama’s policy in regard to Israel and the US was always to put daylight between the two nations. I trust this will be immediately reversed in the days that follow his exit. The Democrat Party has moved further to the Left – ergo less supportive of Israel however the Congress – Democrat and Republican are still very much pro Israel although in Obama years even Democrats in Congress have not taken the strong position we’ve become accustomed to. If I had to bet what Obama had in mind on his way out – it would be he’ll not veto the usual proposal to seat “Palestine” and instead abstain which opens the door for them as a full UN member that because of the baked in anti Israel sentiment at the UN, Palestine will immediately be stronger and have more support to pass all sorts of resolutions and proposals. THAT will be this horrible hostile Presidents legacy that you can bet he will extremely proud of.

  • kiwi41

If the Mossad hadn’t been infiltrated by Israel hating leftist vermin, obaboon would not still be stealing oxygen.

    • shloime

      you gotta be kidding.

maybe you should watch fewer adam sandler movies, or learn to differentiate between hollywood and real life.

  • Cheryl Cooper

I love my Pres. Obama….his views on Israel totally let me down !!! We the American People back you !! So very sorry some of our officials are crazed !!

    Constipation Assembly

Yesterday the UN / was all speeches / on nothing and shmegotiations /

On why and why / and mere nonsense / Who kills whom and how many /

And not all over the world / but a specific area / (ours, of course) /

At the assembly there was a rally cry / for the poor terrorist who was killed /

Syrians gas children / and the Russians still Bomb /

And Turks kill Kurds / But nobody speaks /

Nigeria has a Genocide / But the Assembly is so silent /

Libya has a mass slaughter / But Abbas is praised /

And the Assembly talks only about a very specific thing / one place in the world /

The terribly jealous Assembly is full of hatred / For the stable, strong Israel’s posture is holding /

So I think the Assembly – is like constipation / difficult to eradicate but certainly tolerable.

  • Efram Paul

The concerns are 100% valid, and no one will convince our jihadist-in-chief to do anything with which he does not agree. With nothing further to lose, his overarching hatred of Jews and Israel, coupled with his deep seated support of all things terrorist, he will fire one more large bomb before he finally leaves the US alone. It will take this country many years to repair some of the damage this traitor has done, some of it will not be possible to repair, and, if G-d forbid, Hillary succeeds him, the damage will all likely be permanent.

  • lyone

Of course Obama won’t have Israel’s back — ever. Nor will Clinton, should she be elected. It is time for American Jews to wake up. Those on the political left are not our friends anymore. By and large the left has embraced the Palestinian narrative and has intertwined that with a healthy dose of Soviet style anti-Semitism.

It is time to drop the party-affiliation baggage, and to start supporting candidates who actually act in OUR best interests.

  • carpe diem 36

I am not concerned. I am sure that Obama Won’t Have Israel’s Back’ at UN After November Election!!!

    • ted weiss

and that will thrill u ?

  • Peter Joffe

Never trust a Muslim!! Obama is a White House 2 faced Islamist. He hates Israel, He hates Benni and he hates white people. We have more than enough proof of that as his most ‘magnificent’ seed has been to OK nuclear weapons fopr Iran. Iran will use them and plunge the middle east into carnage. Well done Barbaric Obama we will be blessed when you go.

  • artist

Sadly the majority of American Jews, those who supported Obama, and now those who support the crooked and felonious liar Hillary Clinton ( along with her cohorts Max and Sidney Blumenthal, Thomas Pickering and Anne Marie Slaughter), who called Israel an “Apartheid State” and Jews, “occupiers, they haven’t had Israel’s back for the past 8 years and neither has Obama!
It is naive beyond reason to believe that after he has nothing left to do but pack that he would begin to have Israel’s back!

    • shloime

the ambiguity of the term “to have someone’s back” leaves open the possibility that he is holding a knife.

obama never said that he was PROTECTING israel’s back, did he?

  • watsa46

What does Obama not understand? IL has numerous times and again stated that she is willing and ready to compromise WITHOUT Preconditions. The exact opposite of the Pal. For 68 years the Int community and the West in particular insist that IL and ONLY IL must make all the compromises!!! Why? A non starter. Imposing for 68 consecutive years a one side concessions and expecting different result is the definition of INSANITY unless, unless, how stupid we are, unless antisemitism is the guiding rule of the Westerners! Voila! So evident that we don’t even think of it.

  • David Epstein

The present tragedy that Jews world wide face is that the world does not want to recognize Jewish biblical rights in the geographical area that the bible tells us God gave to the Jewish people and unfortunately President Obama seems to align himself ( for one reason or another that only he knows ) with this fundamental hostility to the Jewish people.

    • Keith James

what percent of Israeli Jews are religious, perhaps 25% tops? the secular also don’t believe in fairy tales of god giving land….

  • Lia

I am neither a Jew nor an American, I don’t live in either Israel or the USA and I have never visited either country, but I have a question: can a new president not invalidate a previous president’s executive order (s)?

    • artist

      yes he can,
Trump will, Hillary won’t, she’ll double down!

      • Lia

Thank you, Artist! Agreed on Trump & Mrs Clinton. (Frankly, I cannot understand how the Democratic Convention still upholds her as a viable candidate …)

  • Isahiah62

after?/ he hasn’t been very pro at any time.
After Nov I do expect a full swing leftward and into full judenhass ala Jimmah Carter b/c the risk of alienating AMERICAN voters will be gone

    • ReformSchool

I expect Soetoro-Obaba, Barry (our S.O.B.-in-Chief) will have Israel’s back the same place it has been since January 2009: In-the- crosshairs, Supporting his pal, Turkish tyrant Recip Tayyip Erdogan, and his phony coup to eliminate all political rivals, Barry is unlikely to arrest and deport (or assassinate) rival Fatullah Gulen, until after U.S. polls close November 8th. Doing so before risks snapping Dumbocrats out of their stupor.

  • kerryberger

It seems to me this article is biased and incorrect, particularly when the President signed the most expensive defense budget increase to Israel as part of our foreign aid package. To say that Obama will not support Israel post election is ludicrous. Netanyahu has berated our President in a manner that was highly disrespectful towards our President and our nation. It’s time that Israeli observers stop thinking selfishly and understand clearly that our support will never be without strings attached. That would not be in OUR best interests. Time to learn to read the mood of others besides yourselves. Many of us who are Jewish-Americans our tired of the bigotry shown towards our President not only internally, but from those who are our closest allies.

    • Isahiah62

please turn your kippah over to the nearest synagogue b/c Jews are supposed to be SMART and obviously you aren’t. It was Oblowhard who slammed the door in Bibi’s face and did his best to screw him in Israeli elections. OBAMA didn’t fund Israel- CONGRESS appropriates funds and so far not controlled by Democrap who despise Israel, and are happy to fund PA PLO and GAZA murderers. Like Bernie.

Israel agreements are trade deals where USA gets 95% of the MONEY back into USA JOBS. We get med tech, and weapons tested in field, what are you getting for same amount of money to Porkistqn and Egypt?? hostility.

      • shloime

soon to be 100%, as obama’s new mou will eliminate the exemptions for buying israeli products.

    • watsa46

Most of the money “given” must be applied to activities that will primarily benefit the US industries and IL cannot use any of the $ for her own fuel procurement!!! Like buying expensive US produced weapons some of them based on IL know-How and tech ingenuity!!! For several decades the US get more than she puts in ……..! Surprise, surprise.
The US see no problem in meddling in IL politics (democracy) but get offended if Putin (dictature) does the same!!!! A lot of US and EU tax $ are used by US & EU NGOs to undermine IL. Your tax $!!!!

    • zvi gross

Your president is an anti Israel bigot. He gave Iran ten fold to what he gave Israel. Israel is a valuable asset and friend and the Iranians
and/or the Fakistanians are the one the USA GIVES EXTRA special treatment to. Logic????

      • Erica Ling

And in the full knowledge that whatever aid given to Israel would be re-invested in US arms manufacture, whilst the money lavished on Iran would be used to promote more terrorism ! Couldn’t be more pointed.

    • Efram Paul

More manipulation of the truth. The agreement places all kinds of restrictions on Israel, and against assisting their economy, as well as demanding if congress grants Israel more money, they will have to return it. Yours is a very shifty and dishonest argument. If you are a thinking man, you already know this, so that would make you a liar.

To show respect for that bigot IS to show disrespect for this country. He has done NOTHING to benefit the US except for the Affordable Health Care Act. Even in that, his mandate is costing millions of working class Americans having to buy health care they cannot afford, or face economic sanctions.

I am a liberal and a Jew. Until recently, I have been a Democrat my whole life. But because of apologists like you, the bigots have hijacked this party and turned it into a hate party. Or have you forgotten the convention and the shouts of ‘palestine will be free from the river to the sea?’ This is the party created by our traitor-in-chief.

It is no coincidence that, for the first time in American history, antisemitism is blatant on a large scale. US campuses have become dangerous for US students unless they genuflect towards the haters. It is also no coincidence that his AGs have a ‘do not accept’ sign for any Jewish victim of the brown shirts if they are trying to file civil rights violations suits.

I understand angst over having to leave the comfortable party which you have always supported. It is hard. And even harder to ally yourself with the troglodytes of the GOP. But two wrongs do not make a right. Just because Hitler was the monster of all time did not make Stalin innocent. Evil is evil, bigotry is bigotry. Under our terrorist-in-chief, our security services have been hamstrung by the venal fascist concept of politically-coerced censorship (to which you undoubtedly genuflect). Horrors like the Boston Marathon could have easily been prevented if politically-coerced censorship had not overruled the safety of the runners and bystanders.

The Muslim Brotherhood is the granddaddy of all terrorist organizations. It is the model for all the savage entities in the world today. Our jihadist-in-chief did all he could to get the MB in power in Egypt (as it is in Turkey), and punished Egypt severely for removing the Islamists. He gave $183 billion, as far as is known at present, to the greatest sponsor of terrorism on earth, which has accelerated, not lessened, their work towards nuclear weapons and the delivery systems to enable them to use them. And that is not even mentioning the exponential increase of terrorism around the world which this has accomplished.

Stop lying to yourself, as well as others. Obama is the greatest criminal to ever occupy the Oval Office. If this were 30 years ago, he would long since have been impeached, removed from office, and would possibly be facing treason charges, for which he is guilty.

He is the greatest enemy to Israel and Jews that has ever existed (outside of fringe groups with minimal assets). His goal, set before he first ran for president, was to facilitate the success of worldwide jihad, and his success in this area is far more than could have been anticipated.

There are two standout malevolent forces which have come to power in recent years. One of them died, finally, earlier this year. the other is your hero.

  • C.R.

Barack Obama, the anti-Semite–has always had a knife to Israel’s back. I knew he was pro Islamic terror, and an Israel and Jew hater in the mid summer of 2007. I was amazed, but not surprised, when the godless Jewish whores at AIPAC cheered him–and enthusiastically supported his fraudulent election, and many of them twice.

    • kerryberger

You have your head in the sand if you believe the POTUS is anti-Semitic. Hardly the case. The difference is that if he was an anti-Semite like Donald Trump is he would go isolationist and not worry about the tensions in the Middle-East between Israel and the Palestinians and other surrounding Arab States. There has to be a quid-pro-quo in any relationship. Frankly, I don’t see it with the corrupt Likud Party and its religious extremist coalition partners.

      • C.R.

You just referenced yourself. You are ignorant with zero discernment.

        • Left_Foot

kerryberger and the rest of them are an embarrassment to our race.

          • Efram Paul

An embarrassment to humanity. They are so steeped in lies they do not even know what the truth is. To claim that you have your head in the sand for recognizing the blatant antisemitism of our jihadist-in-chief, is a sign of delusional thinking.

      • watsa46

U must be a liberal! DT has a long history of assistance and friendship with IL and his 3 children are married to Jewish kids. That is very antisemitic, only if you are a liberal. Fifty% of Liberal Jews (AJC report, “16) have NEVER put a toe in IL. Most are young. A testimony to the legacy of US liberal Jews!!! Their kids will soon have no idea of their Jewish background and heritage! Tks the Liberal and reformed whatever!

        • Left_Foot

kerryberger is not a Liberal or Reform, just an ignorant, self-hating “Jew” These are the same “Jews” who supported FDR in his decision not to accept Holocaust refugees and to return to Europe the St Louis and other ships. These are “Jews” like Arthur Ochs “Punch” Sulzberger, Sr. (the editor of the New York Times) who refused to publish information about the Holocaust, stating that NYT is not a Jewish paper. These are the same “Jews” who staged a most anti-Semitic/anti-Israel opera ((The Death of Klinghoffer (1991)) at the Metropolitan Opera. These are the same “Jews” who would fund Hitler’s election campaign if he belonged to the Democrat Party.

These are not Jewish people for they never support Jews in Israel or other parts of the world. Rather, they endorse fashionable ideologies or should I say, opinions, consistent with their group-think attitudes. Neither are they Americans, because they despise the hard-working Americans (the Red Necks). The list is much longer, but you get the gist of it.

          • markscotto

Not to quibble, but it was Arthur Hays Sulzberger, the father of Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Sr. who buried the information about the Holocaust. Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Sr. apologized for this in 1996. Despite the apology, the Times remains ambivalent at best about Israel under the leadership of the next Sulzberger, who was in fact raised as an Episcopalian. So you can’t accuse the current publisher of the Times of being a bad Jew.

          • Left_Foot

I apologize, my mistake. Arthur Ochs “Punch” Sulzberger Sr. became publisher of The New York Times in 1963. His father, Arthur Hays Sulzberger, was at the head of the NYT during WWII. Nevertheless, newspapers like Washington Post and New York Times can hardly be called objective, and not just vis-a-vis Israel.

There are a lot of reasons not to like Trump, but he is certainly not an anti-semite. Many of the people in his organization are Jews, not to mention his daughter and his grandchildren. Of course, one can be a Jew and an anti-semite, but there is not a shred of evidence that Trump is a Jew-hater. Furthermore, I don’t believe that Obama is an anti-semite but Obama has certainly been openly hostile to the government of Israel. There are a lot of reasons not to like Netanyahu, but Obama’s venom towards Netanyahu certainly seems disproportionate, particularly compared to Obama’s treatment of a putative ally like Erdogan who has imprisoned more journalists than Russia and has just fired 100,000 academics, teachers, judges, etc.

      • carpe diem 36

The so called agreement with Iran is nothing but an anti Israel agreement. We all know that Iran calls Israel little Satan and it says Death to Israel every time. They are not fibbing.

      • lyone

Obama is about as anti-Israel and anti_Jewish as any US President in the history of our country.

      • Efram Paul

His animosity towards Bibi and Israel goes back to the very beginning of his nefarious term. Remember his leaving Bibi to go to dinner was at the beginning of his term, not recent.

Your use of corrupt needs to be clarified. It has been a very long time since a more corrupt politician than Hillary was on the scene.

It is YOUR head that is planted deep under the sand. You may not like Likud, but at least Likud attempts to act in the best interests of those whom they were elected to lead. When did our jihadist-in-chief EVER do anything to benefit the country he was elected to serve? Giving $150 to Iran in exchange for…..nothing? How about the additional $33 billion in cash and gold, like a Mafia transaction?

He has been 100% hostile to Israel from word one. He is the one who called into question the loyalty of Jews over his Iran scam. His administration has been full of antisemitic remarks. If you truly believe that our jihadist-in-chief is not antisemitic, you are living in a dream world. You will not have my sympathy when the brown shirts come for you.

      • rulierose

with all due respect, you’re a moron. Obama is the most anti-Israel president we’ve ever had.

      • Sifter

Yes, the ‘anti Semite’ Trump wraps himself in a Tallit and disowns his own Jewish daughter and grandchildren, right? Only thing worse than a Jihadi is a rigid Leftist Delusionist Jew who unquestionably continues to back the Clintons and Obamas of the world, those who call the elected PM ” chickenshit”, withhold Hawk missiles during time of war, and enable radical Jew hating Muslims like Erdogan and Morsi. Take a nap already, Bernie!

Here too giving support to this antisemitic president by the likes of you could bring weakness to Israel

You know how Obama shows hate for the State of Israel (Jewish State). He says Jews do not have a right to build homes in their capital Jerusalem. He tells them they have no right to build homes elsewhere in the land of Israel. If someone African Americans can not live in certain neighborhoods in Atlanta because the peace would be upset that would be considered racist. That is what Obama is doing to Israeli Jews he is telling them not to live in certain place because the PLO who wants to destroy Israel telling him that.

        That is antisemitism by Obama.

BHO hates israel and Bibi. He is constantly meddling and inciting, while sending millions to the damned Palestinian terrorist. That is antisemetic enough for me
