JNS.org – Republican-Jewish philanthropists Sheldon and Dr. Miriam Adelson are pledging $14 million to aid the integration of Israeli-Americans into the US Jewish community, the couple’s newspaper Israel Hayom reported.

The Adelsons made the announcement on September 26 at the end of the Israeli American Council’s (IAC) annual national conference. Mr. Adelson appealed to the audience of 2,100 to assist in helping hundreds of thousands of Israeli Americans assimilate, and Dr. Adelson added that Israel will be strengthened when the IAC grows in political influence. She also referred to the organization’s members as “Israeli soldiers” in the US.

The Adelsons’ efforts to build connections between the Jewish communities in America and Israel were evident during a private meeting with a Yesha Council delegation at the IAC conference.

In a statement, the Yesha Council — the umbrella organization for municipal councils of Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria — announced that, “Mr. Adelson was extremely excited to hear about a new Amazon-like ‘Buycott’ website that the council is in the process of launching…to promote Israeli goods directly to consumers,” as part of the fight against BDS [Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement].
