Ahead of US Secretary of State John Kerry’s Mideast policy speech on Wednesday, a member of the Israeli cabinet blasted the countries that supported Friday’s UN Security Council Resolution 2334, declaring a Jewish presence beyond the 1967 armistice lines illegal, the Hebrew news site nrg reported.

Transportation, Intelligence and Atomic Energy Minister Yisrael Katz said with disgust, “States to which Israel has been providing intelligence to assist them in preventing terrorist attacks on their soil sat there and voted against us at the UNSC.”

In sharp contrast to Katz — a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party — opposition politicians, among them Zionist Union MK Tzipi Livni, defended the resolution, while criticizing what she considers to be the reason behind it.

“In the sea of curses that the Netanyahu government is hurling at the world, it is our job to distill the truth,” Livni said. “The entire world is not against the state of Israel, but rather against the settlement policy of the Israeli government. In times of war against enemies, we will stand by the government’s side, but we will not stand beside a government that turns our friends into enemies through its policies.”
