student-made video clip on the official Vimeo page of a California college’s media studies department attacked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu by mocking — and taking out of context — statements made by the Israeli leader.

Using real footage from Netanyahu’s Facebook page, the one-and-a-half-minute clip — titled “Bibi Comedy Show” — opens with dramatic music accompanying the written text: “Bibi Netanyahu in a brand new stand up comedy show! He’ll make you laugh so hard you will LITERALLY CRY! Literally.”

It then shows Netanyahu saying, “I’m sure many of you have heard the claim that Jewish communities in the West Bank are an obstacle to peace,” while snapshots of aggressive Israeli behavior against Palestinians appear on the screen.

A laugh track plays when Netanyahu goes on to say, “Israel’s diversity shows its openness and readiness for peace” — before cutting to last year’s election-day clip, in which the prime minister urged his supporters to vote, warning that the Arab population was “going to the polls in droves” and that “right wing rule is in danger.” Netanyahu’s subsequent apology for those comments was not included.

The video, reportedly created as part of a project for the Claremont Colleges’ Intercollegiate Media Studies (IMS) Department, claims that Israel is an illegally occupying power that ethnically cleansed the land of Palestinians in the 1948 War of Independence.

Anna Chang, senior director for communications of the IMS program, told The Algemeiner:

This Vimeo page is an archive of student works used for peer review of student presentations. “BIBI COMEDY SHOW” is a student academic project that explores video techniques and skills of media expression and production. The views and opinions expressed in this and other student academic projects are those of the video makers and do not reflect the official policy or position of Intercollegiate Media Studies or The Claremont Colleges (Pitzer, Pomona, Scripps, Harvey Mudd and Claremont McKenna).

Claremont is a consortium of five small, private liberal arts colleges — Pitzer, Pomona, Scripps, Harvey Mudd and Claremont McKenna — located east of Los Angeles, which has a history of anti-Israel activism. As The Algemeiner reported, a mural was recently painted on campus by the school’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine, depicting all of Israel as a future state of “Palestine,” together with the slogan: “Right 2 Resist,” used to justify violence against Israelis.
