JNS.org – Israeli basketball player Omri Casspi signed a one-year contract with the Golden State Warriors, the 2017 National Basketball Association (NBA) champions.

Casspi inked the $2.1 million agreement during a midnight conference call with the team’s representatives, Israel’s Channel 2 reported.

A native of Holon, Casspi joined the NBA in 2009 as the first Israeli-born player in the league’s history. His last team was the Minnesota Timberwolves, who signed him after he was waived by the New Orleans Pelicans. Casspi had suffered a broken thumb in his first game with New Orleans. The Pelicans acquired him in February from the Sacramento Kings as part of their trade for All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins.

The 6-foot-9 Casspi has averaged 8.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, while shooting about 37 percent from three-point range, in eight NBA seasons. The Warriors will be his sixth NBA team.
