JNS.org – A delegation of Israeli security officials, headed by Mossad intelligence agency Director Yossi Cohen, will arrive in Washington, DC later this week for talks on the situation in Syria and Lebanon.

The Israeli delegation will reportedly try to encourage the Trump administration to amend the current US-Russia cease-fire in southern Syria, in a way that ensures Iranian forces and the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah are ousted from the war-torn state.

In addition to the Mossad chief, the delegation also reportedly includes head of IDF military intelligence Maj. Gen. Herzl Halevi and the leader of the Israeli Defense Ministry’s political-security department, Zohar Palti, Haaretz reported.

The Israeli representatives will meet with National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell, Trump’s international negotiations representative Jason Greenblatt and others, according to a White House official.

“Talks will focus on Israel’s security needs vis-a-vis Syria and Lebanon, and will not deal with the Israeli-Palestinian peace process,” the official said.
