Amid Jerusalem Tensions, Israeli Man Seriously Wounded by Knife-Wielding Palestinian Terrorist at City’s Main Bus Station
by Algemeiner Staff
An Israeli security guard was stabbed in the chest and seriously wounded by a knife-wielding Palestinian terrorist on Sunday at the Jerusalem Central Bus Station.
The attack took place next to a metal detector in front of the bustling transportation depot’s Jaffa Road entrance.
The assailant — a Palestinian man in his 20s from the Nablus region of the West Bank — was chased down and arrested nearby.
The wounded Israeli man was transported to Shaare Tzedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where he was fighting for his life.
Tensions have been running high in Jerusalem in recent days following US President Donald Trump’s recognition of the city as the Jewish state’s capital — a move that was warmly welcomed by the Israeli government and bitterly condemned by the Palestinian Authority and Hamas.
The future status of Jerusalem is one of the key issues to be resolved in any potential Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.
Stabbing incidents like Sunday’s have been a prominent feature of a wave of “lone-wolf” Palestinian terrorist attacks that has ebbed and flowed over the past two years.
