“Today” co-host Kathie Lee Gifford told her morning show audience on Monday about her recent trip to Israel and the Jewish doctor who tended to her when she got sick.

The morning show host said she visited Israel to film videos that would serve “as a companion piece” to her upcoming book The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi, which will be released on March 6. Gifford showed the audience various photos from her trip and told her co-host Hoda Kotb about getting sick during her stay in Israel.

“I got quite sick — you know how I’m always saying I never get sick, I got sick,” she said. “[And] this doctor; this little, beautiful Jewish doctor comes to my hotel, he comes up to me, looks at me and goes ‘Oh, somebody does not feel good.’ And he gives me a big hug.”

Gifford tried her hand at an Israeli accent as she described her time spent with the doctor, who visited her a few times to make sure she was feeling better before heading back to the US. She added that she stayed an extra two days in Israel to heal because she was on the verge of getting pneumonia.

This was not Gifford’s first time in Israel. She previously noted on the “Today” show that she visited the country when she was 17, and she missed her high school graduation because of the trip.
