Protests along the Gaza-Israel border started in late March and since then scores of Palestinian demonstrators have been killed by Israeli sniper fire. Hundreds of others have been injured as masses of “protesters” throwing rocks and trying to infiltrate Israel and kill Israelis have been confronted by the IDF. While the entire nation of Israel stands in solidarity with the army, organizations funded by the radical New Israel Fund do the opposite.

On April 15, Yesh Din, a NIF grantee, urgently petitioned the Supreme Court together with the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), Gisha-The Legal Center for Freedom of Movement, and HaMoked to revoke the IDF rules of engagement that permit live fire against Palestinian protesters along the Gaza-Israel border. Maybe they think Israeli soldiers should throw flowers at people who throw Molotov cocktails?

Meanwhile, Knesset MK Yair Lapid (Yesh Atid), a leader of the opposition, recently wrote, “I am proud of the IDF officers and soldiers, thanks to whose determination and professionalism we all celebrated the Seder with our families in peace and quiet. I advise Hamas not to try us. The residents of the Gaza Strip must direct their protests toward Ismail Haniyeh and Abu Mazen, who are responsible for their harsh situation.”

Lapid further noted,

The world must be informed that this is not a civil protest but despicable organized terror that uses women and children as human shields. The IDF is operating against it diligently, with determination and in accordance with international law. The IDF’s officers and soldiers need to know that they have our full backing. We have complete faith in them and in the way they are operating. No country in the world would consent to hundreds of terror activists suddenly invading its territory and violating its sovereignty, and Israel is no different than the rest of the world. We cannot consent to this and the IDF can use force to prevent it.

While Israelis across the political spectrum stand with the IDF, human rights group B’Tselem — another NIF grantee — published advertisements that urged Israeli soldiers to refuse orders to fire, entitled “Sorry Commander, I cannot shoot.”

In addition, according to the website of the radical NGO Adalah, “Adalah-The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel and Al Mezan Center for Human Rights filed a petition with the Israeli Supreme Court on April 23, 2018 demanding that it order the Israeli military to stop using snipers and live ammunition in order to disperse Palestinian protests in the Gaza Strip. ”

Meanwhile, Zionist Union Chairman Avi Gabbay commented on the confrontations between the IDF and the Palestinians at the security fence, stating, “The IDF and the defense establishment proved themselves [in action at the Gaza border]. [The IDF displayed] determination, proper judgment, and the creation of deterrence against the provocations of Hamas.”

On April 26, in advertisements, B’Tselem published the names of protesters who were shot and killed in Gaza demonstrations without bothering to mention that most of those protesters were active in terror organizations.

Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman noted that 90 percent of the “protesters” killed were Hamas officials or “activists.”

That same day, B’Tselem Executive Director Hagai El-Ad sent UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres a letter listing the names of the 35 Palestinians protesters shot to death by Israeli forces in Gaza in recent weeks, four of whom were minors. El-Ad called upon the UN to do “all that is in its power — and its responsibility — in order to protect Palestinian lives and uphold international norms” with the goal of immediately ending the ostensibly illegal shooting of unarmed demonstrators in Gaza.

Yet again, New Israel Fund organizations call on outsiders to harm the IDF and all of Israel. While Israel is under attack, the New Israel Fund works to undermine the Jewish state — at the border, at the United Nations, and with foreign governments.
