Crew members of Israeli airlines were told this weekend to raise their security awareness while abroad in the coming days, due to heightened regional tensions, the Hebrew news site Ynet reported.

The warning, the report said, mentioned Iran, the opening of the American Embassy in Jerusalem, “Nakba Day,” and the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Terrorists, the message cautioned, could set their sights on “soft” Israeli or Jewish targets.

El Al crew members received instructions related specifically to the US and Canada.

“Following an assessment carried out in light of the sensitive situation in the Middle East, one should avoid places associated with the Jewish/Israeli community in North America and crowded spots,” the instructions said.
