An Israeli man was murdered and two others were wounded in a stabbing attack in the West Bank community of Adam, near Jerusalem, on Thursday night.
The 31-year-old fatality was wounded critically by the terrorist and passed away several hours later.
Another man, 58, suffered serious injuries and was upgraded to moderate condition after being hospitalized.
The terrorist, identified as 17-year-old Mohammad Tareq Yousef from the Palestinian village of Kobar, also stabbed a third man, who was lightly injured before shooting and killing his assailant. It is believed that Yousef snuck into Adam by climbing over a fence.
Daniel Nadav, a resident of Adam who witnessed the attack, told Israeli media that he saw “sharp movements and thought at first that it’s a fight between neighbors. Then suddenly, I saw a man running my way and a terrorist pursuing him, and I understood that it’s a [nationalistic attack].”
“The terrorist saw me and started chasing me,” Nadav recalled. “I ran and he understood that he wouldn’t be able to catch me. He stabbed two people here and then stabbed a third before [the victim] neutralized him.”
Hamas, the Islamist terrorist group that rules the Gaza Strip, praised the attack as a “heroic action” in a statement, calling it a “natural response to Israel’s crimes.”
In the immediate aftermath of the stabbing, IDF troops conducted searches in the surrounding area in an effort to track down any potential accomplices.
Two battalions were deployed to the IDF’s Central Command as reinforcements.
