JNS.org – Despite major budget cuts, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) posted a job last month paying 14 times the average annual Palestinian income.

The position of director of external relations will pay $108,189 a year, tax-free. It will also include subsidized housing, education grants for children, dependency allowances, travel expenses, a deluxe insurance package and a whopping six weeks of vacation time a year, according to a report by The Jerusalem Post.

The average Palestinian made $6,960 in 2017.

Following an announcement by US President Donald Trump that the United States would be slashing its UNRWA funding, UNRWA fired 125 workers, told another 570 that they would now be employed only part-time, and warned an additional 270 that their contracts would be up at the end of the year if the financial situation did not improve.

In late September, UNRWA announced that several Palestinian public facilities would be shuttered due to a deficit of $185 million. It subsequently raised $122 million.
