Israel Starts Demolishing Recently Uncovered Hezbollah Attack Tunnels
by Benjamin Kerstein
Israel has begun the process of destroying Hezbollah attack tunnels discovered by the IDF as part of its recent Operation Northern Shield.
According to Israel’s Channel 2, the demolitions began over the last few days. A formal announcement was made on Friday by the IDF Spokesperson’s Office.
The tunnels are being demolished with explosives, and the IDF is warning residents on the Lebanese side of the border in Arabic to evacuate the area before detonation.
A video released by the IDF shows a soldier shouting into a megaphone saying, “To the residents of the village of Ramyah, we are blowing up the tunnel built by Hezbollah. I ask you to evacuate the area right now, quickly — you are in danger.”
IDF Spokesman Roni Manelis stated on Friday that due to the operation, Hezbollah will not be able to use the tunnels again, though “it will take more time” to completely eliminate the threat.
“We warn the residents of Lebanon not to approach the entrances to the tunnels or their general vicinity,” Manelis added. He also called on the UN force stationed along the border, UNIFIL, to “act to neutralize them from the Lebanese side.”
