Iran is stepping up supply flights to Syria in the wake of the US decision to withdraw troops from the war-torn country, Hebrew media reported on Sunday.

Citing publicly available flight tracking data, Israel’s Channel 2 said that higher numbers of transport aircraft have been traveling between Damascus and Tehran in recent days.

The latest flights were identified on Sunday as a cargo aircraft belonging to the forces of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, which took off from Tehran bound for Syria’s north.

Another plane took off from Tehran and stopped in Iraq, possibly to frustrate attempts to identify it, before continuing on to Syria.

Israel has stated that it will not allow Iranian entrenchment in Syria, and has conducted numerous airstrikes against Iranian targets in the country. White House national security adviser John Bolton is now visiting the region to address the issue.
