Israel Railways is hoping to find a good home for a most unusual customer.

A calico cat nicknamed Mitzi, who lives at a Petah Tikva train station, became Israel’s latest internet sensation recently when she was caught on video sitting on one of the turnstiles apparently “greeting” travelers as they passed through.

The clip quickly went viral, with thousands of likes and shares on YouTube, turning Mitzi into a national celebrity.

Unfortunately, the Hebrew news site Mako reported, Mitzi will likely soon be homeless. The station is set to undergo a major renovation, and railway officials are fearful it will disturb Mitzi’s habitat. As a result, a nationwide search is underway to find Mitzi a new home.

“We want to soften the blow and find her a home,” said Israel Railways spokesman Matan Berkovitch, “and I invite everyone to the train station in Kiryat Aryeh to meet her.”

The station’s manager, Eliyahu Yifrach, admitted, “It’s very hard for the station’s staff to part with the beloved cat.” Yifrach said Mitzi would only be put up for adoption after careful consideration of various candidates.

Those interested in adopting Mitzi are encouraged to send an email to house4mitzi@gmail.com.
