US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo landed in Israel on Wednesday, his second stop on a three-nation Middle East swing.

Pompeo later met in Jerusalem with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who used the opportunity to call for greater pressure on Iran.

The right-wing Israeli leader – who is deadlocked in the polls with centrist challenger Benny Gantz ahead of the April 9 national election — said, “Rolling back Iran is in the interest of peace and security and stability for Israel, for our neighbors and for the world.”

Next week, Netanyahu will fly to Washington, DC, where he will meet with President Donald Trump and address the annual American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference.

A White House statement issued on Wednesday said Trump and Netanyahu would talk about “their countries’ shared interests and actions in the Middle East” at a White House sit-down this coming Monday.

The following day, Trump will host Netanyahu for dinner.

Pompeo arrived in Israel after visiting Kuwait. He will also travel to Lebanon before returning to the US this weekend.
