Israeli Shalva Band’s Eurovision Performance Praised for ‘Making Dreams Come True’
Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs commended the country’s Shalva Band following their heartwarming performance at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv on Thursday night.
“Was so proud to watch the amazing performance by Israeli Shalva band at yesterday’s #Eurovision 2nd semi-finals,” Yuval Rotem, the Ministry’s director general, wrote on Twitter. “This group takes the competition’s slogan #DareToDream to a whole new level. They’re not only dreaming, but are also making dreams come true.”
The Shalva Band, made up of eight Israeli musicians who have various disabilities, was one of four finalists competing to represent Israel in Eurovision, but the group pulled out of the race because some mandatory rehearsals for the competition conflicted with Shabbat, which some band members observe.
On Thursday they received a standing ovation for their performance of the song “A Million Dreams” from the movie “The Greatest Showman.”
