An article posted to the IDF blog over Passover and covered by The Algemeiner has been denounced in the Arab media. Rashid Shaheen, who writes for the Arabic Media Internet Network claimed that the article is a “lie” and as “fake” as Anne Frank.
Anonymous blogger Elder of Ziyon spotted the article and writes of Shaheen‘s accusation: “Not only is it a lie, he states, but it is another Zionist lie like the lie of the diary of Anne Frank, which, he claims – quoting Holocaust denier Roger Garaudy – was written in ballpoint pen before such pens were invented.”
The article in question was a profile Dina Ovadia, an Israeli woman currently serving in the IDF. Ovadia recounted how, as a child growing up in Egypt her family withheld her Jewish identity from her because of fears of a reprisal. Ovadia’s family was eventually kicked out of Egypt when it was discovered that they had a connection to a member of the IDF.
Shaheen does believe one part of the story, though, as Elder of Ziyon notes– and it’s that Ovadia suffered from some name calling in school when she first moved to Israel.
