Elie Wiesel
Author/Humanitarian
An acclaimed writer, a Nobel peace prize winner, a devoted friend of Israel, and advocate for justice around the globe, Wiesel’s moral stature on the world stage is unparalleled. An indefatigable champion of human rights, Wiesel continues to give voice to the voiceless. This past year he was particularly critical of the Hungarian government’s continued whitewashing of its World War II era crimes as well as its burgeoning anti-Semitic culture. He also published a new book, Open Heart, which is just the latest in a long list from the prolific writer. Speaking to a prominent journalist, Wiesel summed up his life quite adequately: “I am a Jew. Born a Jew. Lived as a Jew. Tried to write about the Jewish condition…the human condition all over the world.”
