Harry Styles wants everyone to “fast well” this Yom Kippur. The non-Jewish teen-pop-sensation is now taking his fascination with Jewish culture one step further, tweeting that he plans on fasting during the solemn holiday.
“Eating as much as I can now. Gonna be a tough 25 hours. My problem is I am always hungry straight after kol nidre. Fast well everyone!” he wrote.
Kol Nidre is the starting prayer of the 25-hour Yom Kippur fast.
Styles has made no secret of his interest in Jewish culture and religion, and was even recently spotted at a Manhattan Kosher eatery sporting a blue knitted kippa embroidered with his name, which was given to him as a birthday gift by his friend, director Ben Winston.
In a recent interview, Winston, who is Jewish, said Styles “loves the Jewish community and wearing a Magen David,” adding that all the members of Styles’s band, One Direction, “love Judaism. They are fascinated by it and they enjoy the family atmosphere. Over the years they have become part of our family really and are interested in what we do.”
Despite possessing a Hebrew tattoo spelling his sister Gemma’s name and Tweeting from time to time about Jewish holidays, Styles, his father confirmed, is “zero percent” Jewish, at least officially.
