JNS.org – The Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum has named Dr. Mohamed Helmy, an Egyptian physician who lived in Berlin during WWII, as “Righteous Among the Nations” for his efforts to save Jews from the Nazis, Army Radioreported on Monday.

Helmy is the first Egyptian individual to be recognized as Righteous Among the Nations.

According to the report, Helmy, together with a German woman named Freida Szturmann, worked to save Jewish families living in the German capital from the Nazis.

Szturmann was also recognized as Righteous Among the Nations. Both Helmy and Szturmann have since passed away, and according to Yad Vashem, the center is currently trying to locate their families.
