A senior Iranian lawmaker described the Geneva agreement that will partially lift sanctions against the Islamic Republic as a great success, saying Israel’s dissatisfaction with the deal is a clear proof for this claim, the state media agency FARS reported on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, said Israeli officials “were unable to conceal their rage” over the deal.
FARS said “the anger of the Zionists (about the newly signed nuclear deal) shows the extent of the success of the Geneva agreement.”
The agreement reached at the weekend lifts several tiers of economic sanctions held over Iran for the past seven years, in exchange for allowing International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors access to Iran’s nuclear sites for the next six months.
Israel, however, has objected to the lack of attention paid to the regime’s nuclear weapons capability, which could be greatly enhanced in even the short time that the sanctions are lifted. Leading up to the agreement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used every opportunity to warn the world that Iran intends to develop nuclear weapons, far beyond the purview of a civilian nuclear program.
