Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization forces in Lebanon are now policing the streets in Beirut, according to a report in Asharq Al-Awsat, cited by Israel’s Ma’ariv daily.
Hezbollah operatives have set up checkpoints to inspect every car entering the Dahieh district controlled by the armed political organization. Since the double bombing of the Iranian embassy on November 19 that killed 25 people, Hezbollah has been wary of further attacks on Iranian institutions in Beirut. Responsibility for the attack was claimed by Abdullah Azzam brigades, a Lebanon-based Al-Qaeda affiliate.
“Young people are walking around with radios, checking every car that wants to enter the Dahieh quarter, and there are whole streets closed to traffic due to security concerns,” Lebanese sources were quoted as saying by Asharq Al-Awsat.
The Lebanese army prevented what would have been another major bomb attack last week, defusing a 250-pound explosive set up three days after the Beirut bombings . The bomb was meant to detonate on the same day Lebanon marked the 70th anniversary of the country’s freedom from French rule. The incident took place in the Bekaa Valley, a stronghold of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah terrorist organization. The official National News Agency reported that the bomb was meant for Beirut.
Meanwhile, according to opposition forces within Syria, a major battle between fighters affiliated with Al-Qaeda and the forces of Syrian leader Bashar Al-Assad and Hezbollah, in the north of Damascus, left more than 50 Syrian soldiers and Hezbollah fighters dead. The opposition forces also reported that Ali Aiskadr, chosen by Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah to lead military activity in Damascus, was killed in the battle.
