Hundreds of anti-Semitic comments have recently been posted to Polish news sites following news of the deteriorating health of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported on Thursday.
In Poland, the story of Sharon’s worsening condition is being covered extensively. Several heavily trafficked Polish websites reporting on the Sharon story have been deluged with anti-Semitic remarks, aimed at the former Israeli premier in particular as well as the entire Jewish people, Ma’ariv said.
“Let’s hope for more such fabulous news in the new year,” was one outrageous New Year’s greeting that appeared on a Polish-language website in response to a news item describing Sharon’s current medical state. Other talkbacks included wishing that the one-time Prime Minister of Israel “burn in hell”.
Regarding the ultimate fate of Ariel Sharon, another Polish Internet surfer recommended that, “the bastard be killed and buried 300 meters underground,” Ma’ariv reported.
Some of the comments spewed hatred not only at Ariel Sharon, but at every other Jew as well. “Jews are like cockroaches,” said one commenter. “Everyone wants to eliminate them, but it’s not easy. When cockroaches crawl around the inside of a house, they leave behind a filthy mess… and every country must do something about this mess.”
The ancient canard of a worldwide conspiracy of plotting Jews also reared its ugly head in some of the responses to updates about Sharon’s rapidly declining health. For example, some comments have accused Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk of doing the bidding of the Jews: “The Jews in Poland are like a plague, and a plague needs to be eradicated the instant it first appears. The epidemic has started, with Tusk and his criminal Jewish organization in Poland,” wrote one responder.
