Caleb Jacoby, the teenage son of Jewish Boston Globe columnist Jeff Jacoby, has been found safe and sound in New York City, the Brookline Police Department confirmed.
“Just in; Caleb Jacoby has been found. Safe and well more to follow as details become available,” the Department tweeted. He was found in Times Square in New York, MassLive reported, citing Brookline Police.
In a blog posting the Department explained how they traced Caleb to New York. “The Brookline Police, working with many other agencies over the past few days were able to provide information to the New York City Police Department that Caleb Jacoby may be in the area of Times Square,” they said. “Based upon this information at approximately 9PM New York City Police informed us they had located Caleb and he was safe and sound.”
“Plans are now being formulated to transport Caleb back home,” the cops said.
On Twitter, Caleb’s father reacted emotionally to the news. “All we can think of at this moment is how wonderful it will be to see Caleb again and shower him with love,” he tweeted. “Words can’t express our gratitude for the extraordinary outpouring of kindness and support that we have received from so many people.”
“Our prayers have been answered,” he said.
“CALEB IS FOUND! IT’S TRUE. Thank you for all of your support, prayers, wishes and love #gratitudeoverflowing,” said Caleb’s aunt, Debby Jacoby.
Jacoby, who is 16 years old, had been missing since Monday around noon. He is a student at the Maimonides School, a Jewish day school in Brookline. His disappearance sparked a broad social media awareness and solidarity campaign, and over 200 volunteers were mobilized to search for him.
“He’s a very quiet boy, he’s also a very good one,” Efrat Lipschitz, Jacoby’s Hebrew teacher, told MassLive. “People really love him in school because he is a very good person.”
