Actress Scarlett Johansson has exposed two lies in her decision to stand down from her role at global charity Oxfam, over differences on the anti-Israel boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, Algemeiner Editor Dovid Efune said on Thursday in an interview on Real News TV.
“One thing that has come to light today is that she [Johansson] is a warrior for truth, she has exposed […] two lies for everybody to see. The first of which is that you have an international aid organization that is taking sides in a conflict where it is supposed to be impartial and is backing the Palestinian position,” Efune said. “And the second lie that she has exposed is that there is something inherently wrong with Jews living in the area known as Judea and Samaria […].”
Last week, Johansson stepped down from her role at the charity after it slammed her endorsement of Israeli carbonated drinks maker SodaStream which owns a factory in the West Bank.
“Oxfam is opposed to all trade from Israeli settlements,” the group said, adding, “We have made our concerns known to Ms. Johansson […].”
Johansson is due to appear in a Super Bowl ad for the drinks maker on Sunday.
Asked about the status of current peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, Efune said that the pressure resulting from the time frame proposed by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was “artificially created.”
“Where did this deadline of April come from?” he asked, referring to Kerry’s expected deadline for talks.
