Pro-Israel blogger Elder of Ziyon on Friday added some bite, and missing context, to a Valentine’s Day campaign by lobby J Street to promote their two-state solution in the ongoing peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority at any cost.
According to Israeli daily Ha’aretz:
J Street, the ‘political home for pro-Israel, pro-peace Americans,’ on Thursday launched a Valentine’s Day campaign for supporters of a two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians. Called ‘Two State Valentines,’ the campaign comprises 11 snarky online ‘cards’ that play on the pursuit of Middle East peace.
The brightly colored cards feature illustrated images of couples with suggestive taglines that refer to thorny issues from the Middle East peace process. ‘Let’s be friends with benefits. I’ll give you access to my holy sites,’ reads one card. Others say things like, ‘I’ll grant you a short term presence in my Jordan Valley’… ‘By the way…I’m into land swapping.’
The card that Elder of Ziyon took to task read, “If things work out, you can have relations with 22 of my friends!” referring to the 22 Arab countries that refuse to have formal relations with Israel.
On Friday, the blogger said, “J-Street came up with a cute gimmick to push their version of a “2-state solution” as a Valentine’s Day card… It is funny, sure. But it seems to be missing a little context, which would (in my humble opinion) make it even funnier.”
In his version, the text reads, “Please give up your right arm, your liver and your heart. If things work out, you can have relations with 22 of my friends! If not, I’ll always have your heart.”
