Iranian Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi on Monday called on faculty and students at a Tehran engineering university to help the Islamic Republic further develop its domestic weapons production, according to semi-official state news agency Fars.

Visiting an exhibition of research and applied sciences at Shahid Sattari University of Aeronautical Engineering, in Tehran, Salehi said, “The efforts of professors and students of Sattari University should be based on faith, thinking, creativity and indigenization of the needed equipment similar to the past in line with the guidelines of the Supreme Leader (of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) and Commander in Chief and at the service of the Islamic Republic.”

According to Fars, “Salehi called on commanders and officials of Shahid Sattari University of Aeronautical Engineering to improve relations with other military universities and science, research and industrial-defense centers.”

Fars claimed Iran has recent “great achievements in the defense sector” and has also “gained self-sufficiency in manufacturing essential military hardware and defense systems.”
