JNS.org – More than 150 Israeli Christians and supporters gathered in front of the European Union’s Embassy in Israel on Sunday to demand that the EU do more to help Middle East Christians, who face growing persecution from Islamic extremists throughout the region.
“The free world must stop Christian persecution and ethnic cleansing in Middle East,” Shadi Khalloul—spokesman for the Israeli Christian Lobby, the group that organized the protest—told JNS.org following the demonstration.
“Today they are silent and try to ignore the massacres and even sometimes support these fanatics,” Khalloul added. “The West must intervene and protect them until peace comes.”
Father Gabriel Nadaf, a Greek Orthodox priest who has promoted Christian integration in Israel, also attended the demonstration, telling the crowd that he is thankful that Israel has been a warm home for Christians.
“We as free Israeli Christians are proud of our country and we thank Israel. We hope that Christian leaders speak loudly without fear and say the truth about Israel. God Bless Israel,” Khalloul said.
Last week, the Israeli Christian Lobby sent a letter to the European Union’s Ambassador to Israel, Lars Faaborg-Andersen, stating, “We are turning to you as someone who represents a Western country, which engraved the values of human and citizens’ rights on its flag. Get up and take action.”
