Following ongoing diplomatic activity in the United Nations, the IDF has now “increased preparedness and raised alert” along its border with Egypt an IDF spokesperson told the Algemeiner.
Concrete intelligence information has led the Israel Defence Forces and security agencies to believe that in an “attempt to sabotage Palestinian Authority developments at the United Nations,” Hamas and other terror organizations are attempting a terrorist attack along the Egyptian border.
The alert comes on the heels of an August 18th terror attack on a desert highway in the far south of Israel, where eight Israelis were killed. The attack incorporated three squads of suicide bombers as well as sniper fire from within Egyptian territory.
In the months following the recent revolution in Egypt, Hamas and other terror organizations have diligently worked to take advantage of the unrest to establish strongholds in the Sinai desert, leaving Israel’s southern border open and vulnerable to terror strikes. Israel has begun the construction of a border fence.
