Israeli musician David Broza and hip hop artist Wyclef Jean teamed up recently to film the music video for Broza’s latest single East Jerusalem/West Jerusalem. The clip was released exclusively to Variety Latino on Wednesday.
In the title track from Broza’s new album of the same name, he calls for peace and tolerance everywhere. He harmonizes with Jean in the chorus, singing, “So many places, all share the same faces, East Jerusalem, West Jerusalem. Shalom, Salam.”
The video includes shots of Jerusalem, Mexico, London and Africa, among other places. The song promotes equality and brotherhood, according to Variety.
“Same face in the Gaza is the same face I see out in California,” Jean sings in the opening of the track. “Same face in Jericho is the same face I see down in Mexico. Same face in Tel Aviv is the same face I see out in New Jersey.”
Broza – who was raised in Israel, Spain and England – told Variety that he is optimistic about the possibility for peace in the Middle East.
“The peace between Israel and Palestine will come. What we do not know is when,” said the musician, who begins touring the U.S. in May. “I see tremendous hope among the people of both sides. I’m talking about people, not politics… Already sick of war, they want to move forward with the economy, build relationships, have a normal life. I am very hopeful and I think it will come.”
