United States National Security Adviser, Ambassador Susan Rice, visited Israel’s Palmachim Air Force (IAF) base in central Israel on Friday, during a visit to the country.

The tour was hosted by the Head of the Israel Air Defense Forces, Brigadier General Shachar Shohat who briefed Rice on IAF defense capabilities and demonstrated an IAF simulator.

Speaking at the base, Rice said U.S. and Israeli security cooperation has reached “unprecedented levels” under the Obama administration, The Jerusalem Post reported. She also lauded recent progress on missile defense technology.

“There can be no doubt, whatsoever, America’s commitment to Israel’s security is unwavering and iron-clad,” she said.

“Our two nations are forever bound by our shared history and our shared values. And every American dollar spent on Israel’s security is an investment in protecting the many interests that our nations share, whether that’s preventing rockets from terrorizing the Israeli people, defending against a growing ballistic missile threat in the region, or advancing our commitment to defend freedom and democracy.”

The Jewish state and the U.S. signed an agreement two months ago in which nearly $500 million will be invested in Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system, Rice said.
