Comedic actor Seth Rogen on Sunday derided rapper Macklemore after the Same Love singer donned a costume during a performance that some criticized as “anti-Semitic.”

“@Macklemore, first you trick people into thinking you’re a rapper, now you trick them into thinking you’re Jewish?” Rogen, who is Jewish, wrote on Twitter.

Macklemore’s offending outfit, worn on Friday, included a fake wig and beard, and an over-sized prosthetic nose. He unveiled the look at a surprise concert with Ryan Lewis in his hometown of Seattle, which was held at the opening of a new exhibit at the city’s EMP Museum called “Spectacle: The Music Video.”

While Seattle Weekly reported that the Grammy winner’s disguise was an attempt to avoid detection prior to his two-song performance, Macklemore’s look was roundly criticized for portraying negative Jewish stereotypes.

Jewish human right group B’nai B’rith International said the “costume choice by singer Macklemore, in which he wore a hook nose while singing a song about frugality called Thrift Shop, is deeply offensive and propagates Jewish stereotypes.”

“His costume choice and subsequent response demonstrate an utter lack of sensitivity. Stereotypes are dangerous and offensive. Stereotypes dehumanize— removing individuality and promoting intolerance,” the group added.

“So @macklemore you’re pro gay, yet anti-Semitic sounds about right,” wrote one Twitter user. Another posted, “@macklemore It makes complete sense to write songs about social injustice, then use Anti-Semitic hatred and cruel stereotypes on stage? Wtf.”

“For those who don’t know, @macklemore performed Thrift Shop dressed as a racist Jewish stereotype. idiot,” wrote another, while others accused the singer of performing “in Jew-face.”

On Sunday, Macklemore took to Twitter to deny the charges, insisting that he had nothing offensive in mind with the costume.

“A fake witches nose, wig, and beard = random costume,” he wrote. “Not my idea of a stereotype of anybody.”

Rogen responded to Macklemore’s Twitter post by writing, “really?? Because if I told someone to put together an anti Semitic Jew costume, they’d have that exact shopping list.”
