Andrew Heiberger, Founder and Chairman of Town Residential, was honored by the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (Real Estate Division) at its Sixth annual Gala December 12. Astor Hall, the lobby of the New York Public Library on 42nd Street, resounded with good fellowship and appreciation as Heiberger spoke of his recent visit to Israel and the importance of supporting those who protect Israel. He launched his first brokerage firm, City Habitats at age 26. His most recent enterprise, Town Residential, was initiated a year ago, and now has four offices employing some 250 licensed real estate professionals and staff.
Ofer Yardeni, the 2010 honoree and an FIDF National Board Member, spoke of the importance of support for the young men and women of the IDF and the projects and facilities provided by the FIDF. This year, Yardeni spoke briefly. His introduction of Honoree – and his FIDF protégée – Andrew Heiberger detailed his growing involvement with the FIDF.
Calling the FIDF an “inspiring and admirable” cause, Heiberger spoke of “a monumental moment in time for the State of Israel” which is facing threats “unlike any it has dealt with before.” He described his recent first trip to Israel, calling the country “both awe-inspiring and humbling.”
His comments regarding the work of the FIDF and its mission to enhance the lives of soldiers and their families were straightforward. “For those that feel passionately about Israel’s security and role as a shining example of democratic and religious freedoms, it is not hard to understand how important and beneficial a cause such as FIDF is.” Noting the soldiers’ youth, he said “the responsibilities they are asked to take on are truly immense.” “The cultural dynamic …is powerful and life-changing…. (and) helps create a sense of respect, duty and civic service that sticks with these young soldiers for life.”
Humorously suggesting that “a few deals are being made as we speak,” Heiberger took a moment to praise New York City as “the most vibrant and resilient real estate market in the world” and note the one year anniversary of his firm. “Anything is possible in New York with a little hard work, capitalism and democratic freedoms.” In Israel, reminded Heiberger, “protecting freedoms falls on the shoulders of these brave soldiers.”
A silent auction of sports memorabilia, entertainment and travel enhanced the enjoyment of the evening.
