Israel Police set up roadblocks around Jerusalem Sunday evening, after an unknown Arab assailant stabbed a Jewish pedestrian near the Old City’s Damascus Gate, police told The Algemeiner.
“The assailant stabbed the victim, a man in his early 30s, in the back with a screwdriver, and then fled on foot towards the Haneviim St. area,” according to police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld.
The victim managed to reach the Jewish Western Wall area and alerted authorities. He was brought to hospital suffering from light to moderate wounds.
Earlier in the day, alert security guards on the capital’s light rail tram apprehended an Arab woman, who was found to be hiding a large knife on her person.
The country has been hit with a wave of nationalistic attacks in recent weeks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs, including two fatal stabbings on Nov. 10th.
Shortly after the attack on Sunday, the PALDF Facebook page posted a photo of a hand holding a screwdriver, calling for more such attacks. The poster is similar to dozens spread throughout Palestinian official and social networking media calling for car ramming attacks.
This report will be updated as more details are confirmed.
