“Believe me I would cancel the contract tomorrow if I could,” CEO Stephane Richard told the Daily News during a press conference, when asked about the company’s contract with Israel.
Partner Communications Company Ltd. is one of Israel’s largest mobile networks and operates under Orange’s name.
Richard suggested that Orange’s agreement with Israel was “inherited” and therefore out of his control, according to the Daily News. The announcement came as the National Union of Students in the U.K. voted to adopt Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) measures against Israel.
Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely on Wednesday called the BDS movement “antisemitism in a new guise.”
According to reports, American billionaire and casino magnate Sheldon Adelson recently announced his intention to convene a private meeting at one of his Las Vegas properties to discuss ways to combat the spread of the BDS movement.
